Hassan Yazdani and Jalal Khaksar Arrested by Security Forces in Quchan

Recently, security forces arrested two individuals named Hassan Yazdani and Jalal Khaksar in Quchan City located in Khorasan Razavi Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, in recent days, Hassan Yazdani, age 45, and Jalal Khaksar, age 44, were arrested by security forces in Quchan and transferred to an unidentified location.

The agents did not show arrest warrants. Reportedly, these individuals had been arrested after returning from Kurdistan Province.

The reasons for this arrest and the charges are still unknown.

Thirteen Citizens Arrested and Accused of Impurity and Prostitution 

Deputy attorney of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Yasuj announced the arrest of 13 citizens for what he called “provoking and provision of indecency and prostitution.”

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, thirteen citizens were arrested and accused of provoking indecency.

Deputy attorney of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Yasuj, Hamid Naderian claimed:

“The Moral Security Police of the province identified the place where the activities tainted with indecency and prostitution in an organized manner were taking place. By the order of the prosecutor of the Public and Revolutionary Court, in an operation, the inhabitants who were accommodated in groups and in several apartments were arrested.”

“These individuals have been charged with prostitution and severe punishment up to 10 years imprisonment awaits them. Also, by the order of the prosecutor, the building is closed until further notice.”

The Moral Security Police is a sub-branch of the Intelligence and Public Security Police that acts as an Islamic religious police center.

100 People Arrested; 85 Businesses Closed for Breaking Ramadan Rules

Deputy Police Chief of Gilan Province announced that so far, since the beginning of the month of Ramadan, they have shut down 85 shops and arrested 100 people for breaking the mandatory fasting rules, namely serving food, eating, and drinking in public. Also, 1500 citizens have received warning notices for breaking these rules.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Mehr News Agency, Deputy Police Chief of Gilan reported the indictment of175 businesses and the arrest of 100 people for breaking the Ramadan fasting rules.

According to the Deputy Police Chief, “During this time, more than 85 businesses have been closed and 1000 individuals who were eating and drinking in public received warning from the authorities, of which 400 people were forced to sign a  commitment letter attesting to not to breaking the Ramadan rules.” 

Earlier, Mohammad-Jafar Montazeri, Prosecutor-General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a letter asked the commander chief of police for preventive measures against those who break the rules of Ramadan and do not respect Sharia laws.

Eating and drinking during the month of Ramadan have not been explicitly criminalized in Iranian laws. Based on Article 638 of the Islamic Penal Code, committing an act that the Islamic jurisprudence considers Haram (forbidden) can be subject to a penalty of either ten days to two months imprisonment or flogging of up to 74 lashes.

Vahed Sheikh Mohammadi Sentenced to Six Months in Prison

Following a series of convictions against some residents of Oshnavieh County in West Azerbaijan Province, the Revolutionary Court of Oshnavieh sentenced Vahed Sheikh Mohammadi, the resident of Oshnavieh County, to six months in prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa News Outlet, Vahed Sheikh Mohammadi, the resident of  Oshnavieh was sentenced to six months on the charge of “collaboration with an anti-regime party”.

On January 30, 2021, security forces arrested Mr Sheikh Mohammadi and transferred him to a detention centre in Urmia. On March 10, 2021, he was relocated from there to Urmia Prison. Three days later, he was released on bail until the end of the legal proceeding.

Five Citizens Including a Minor Arrested in Piranshahr

Last Sunday, April 3, 2022, the security forces arrested five citizens, including a 17 years old female teen in Piranshahr. They were transferred to a detention center for interrogation.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, the five individuals identified as Parisa Sepahi, age 17, Kooyar Eliasi, age 18, Erfan Zolfinia, age 18, Yousef Heshrati, age 22 and Mansour Kani-Rashi, age 32, were arrested in Piranshahr County by security forces.

Reportedly, the security forces did not show any warrant during the arrest.

The reason for these arrests and the charges are still unknown.

14 Businesses Closed for Serving Food During Ramadan

The Public Security Police of the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran (NAJA) announced the closure of 14 restaurants and snack bars for serving food during the holy month of Ramadan in Lorestan Province. Moreover, three citizens were arrested for breaking the mandatory fasting rules, as eating and drinking in public during Ramadan is forbidden.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting IRIB News Agency, in Lorestan Province 14 businesses were shut down due to serving food during Ramadan.

The Head of Public Security Police of NAJA, Ahmadreza Ahmadian stated:

“Following an action plan to surveil businesses during the month of Ramadan, 14 businesses were closed due to breaking the fasting rules and serving food to people. Also, 124 businesses received warning notice for failure to observe Ramadan rules.”

Additionally, three citizens were arrested for eating and drinking in public.

Jamshid Sharmahd Made a Phone Call to His Family after Seven Months Detention

After seven months of deprivation of having a phone call, Iranian-German national Jamshid Sharmahd was allowed to make a phone call to his family. Despite suffering from respiratory problems and blood pressure disorder due to long incarceration, he has been denied any adequate medical treatment. He has been detained for about 600 days and undergone interrogations routinely.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Iranian-German national Jamshid Sharmahd was allowed to make a phone call to his family after seven months.

On her personal page on social media, Ghazaleh Sharmahd informed about his father’s phone call. According to her, Mr  Sharmahd is held in a solitary confinement cell and interrogated on a regular basis. He also suffers from blood pressure disorder. He has missed his teeth and only two teeth have been left. He also has problems walking due to being held for long in a confined space. He does not receive his medicine in a sufficient quantity or on time.

On March 6, 2022, the third court session of the Tehran’s Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Salavati, was held. The first and second court sessions had been held on February 6 and 20 of 2022.

On August 1, 2020, in a written statement, the Ministry of Intelligence announced his apprehension and claimed that he is one of the leaders of the anti-regime group known as Tondar group. In 2006, Sharmahd had claimed to be the leader of one of the Royal Association’s branches after Frood Fooladvand, founder of the Royal Association, abducted and disappeared in Turkey.

Several Alleged Offenders Humiliated by Police through Shame-Parading in the Streets of Kermanshah

According to a video circulated on social media, the police paraded several detainees through the streets of Kermanshah city for humiliating and public shaming. In recent years, Iran’s law enforcement officers have occasionally used shame parading as a punishment tool against both suspected and convicted offenders. Shame Parading is a  blatant violation of both domestic laws, human rights treaties and human dignity.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, a video circulated on social media showed that the police used shame parading of several alleged criminals in Kermanshah city.

Calling the detainees “thugs and offenders of recent crimes in the city”, the police officials stated that the shame parades had been authorized by the order of judicial authorities. 

  

One Kolbar Killed in Direct Shooting by Iran’s Military

On Friday, March 25, 2022, the military forces killed a kolbar (Cross Border Carrier) through direct shooting at the border areas of Baneh County, located in Kurdistan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kordpa, a kolbar was shot dead by military forces.

He has been identified as Rostam Khezri, age 25, married and a resident of Oshnavieh.

Reportedly, the military forces opened fire against him without any warning.

According to HRANA’s annual report, during the period of March 21 of 2021, and March 16 of 2022, a total of 203 citizens were shot by the regime’s military forces. In these incidents, 91 people were shot dead including 26 Kolbars (Cross Border Carriers), 13 Sukhtbar (Fuel Border Carriers), and 52 other civilians. 112 people were injured, of the injured, 82 people were Kolbars, 12 Sukhtbar, and 18 other civilians.

Additionally, 34 Kolbars were affected by climate and geographic factors such as frostbite and falling from heights. In these accidents, 21 Kolbars were injured and 13 ultimately died.

 

Four Citizens Injured in Direct Unrestrained Shooting by Military Forces

On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, in Sabzevar County, military forces opened fire on a vehicle, which led to the death of two members of a family and the injury of two others. 

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Hal Vash news site, on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, two members of a family were killed and two others injured in direct shooting by military forces.

One of the two individuals has been identified as Abdollah Alizehi, a resident of Zahedan. His father, Pirmohammad Alizehi has been injured in this incident. The identities of two other victims are unknown so far.
