HRANA News Agency – Hashmatullah Tabarzadi, political activist, who was arrested on Tuesday morning, May 18, in the street and was taken to Evin Prison, is still kept in uncertain condition in this prison. Mr. Tabarzadi’s family announced that he was on hunger strike.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Hashmatullah Tabarzadi, political activist, who was arrested by the security forces on May 18 after leaving home and was taken to Evin prison, is still in an uncertain condition in this prison.
So far, no particular institution has accepted the responsibility for his arrest and it is not clear who has arrested him and where he is being kept in Evin prison.
A close source to his family confirmed the news in an interview with HRANA’s reporter, and in response to the question of whether or not he has had any contact with his family, said: “Since the arrest of Mr. Tabarzadi, only once he had a short contact with his family and it was spent on greetings and he was not allowed to say anything else.”
The source added: “The family of Mr. Tabarzadi knows that he is on hunger strike. They are very concerned about the issue of hunger strike, demanding the reason for his detention to be clear as soon as possible.”
It should be mentioned that Mr. Tabarzadi, a day after his arrest was in interrogation sessions, in Branch 2 of Shahid Moghadas court in Evin prison for 2 hours, but his family are still unaware of the potential charges that he may be facing. They only has heard that this political activist is held in ward 209 of Evin prison, in uncertain condition.
Earlier, on last Wednesday night Celebration, “Charshanbeh Souri”, a summon letter was sent to Mr. Tabarzadi’s home by the Evin Court. He refused to take it and the summon officers had announced that he was not at home.
It is to remind that Mr. Tabarzadi was released after nearly five and a half years imprisonment by applying Article 134 and integration of charges from Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj on June 30, 2015.
Hashmatullah Tabarzadi is the Secretary of the Democratic Front of Iran and has a number of arrests and more than 10 years imprisonment in his case. He was arrested at noon on December 28, 2008 and was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment.
This journalist had been previously the director of some publications such as “Payame Daneshjo”, “Nedaye Daneshjo”, “Hoviate Khish” and “Gozareshe Rooz”.
