HRANA- Seventeen political prisoners in Ward 350 of Evin Prison on hunger strike since last Monday have stated their demands. The prisoners delivered their demands to prison officials and a representative of Tehran’s prosecutor stating they will not end their hunger strike until their demands are met.
The seventeen political prisoners have been on hunger strike since being transferred to solitary confinement last Monday for protesting inhumane treatment by prison officials. They are on hunger strike demanding their basic human rights.
Their demands include the recognition of prisoner rights, an end to the insulting treatment by prison officials, and the right to have access to newspapers and books.
The striking political prisoners further demand that those officials who are violating the basic rights of the prisoners be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and that those prisoners in solitary confinement be immediately transferred back to the general population ward.
Included in their demands is the call to immediately release Babak Bordbar a news photographer who has not been released from prison although a court order for his release was handed down.
Additionally, the prisoners are demanding an end to the over crowded conditions, more telephone time, and access to medical treatment for all prisoners. Lastly, the prisoners are demanding that all their rights be recognized permanently and not as measures that can be taken away.
The names of those on hunger strike currently in solitary confinement include student activist Ali Malihi, Bahman Ahmadi Amoui a journalist, Hossein Nouraninejad a jouranalist, student activist Abdullah Momeni, student activist Ali Pourani, poltical activist Hamid Reza Mohammadi, civic activist Jafar Eghdami, news photographer Babak Bordbar, student activist Zia Nabavi, civic activist and war veteran Ibrahim Nader Babaei, human rights activist and blogger Kouhiar Goudarzi, student activist Majid Dari, student activist Majid Tavakoli, journalist Keyvan Samimi, Gholam Hossein Arashi and Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad.
