Saeed Shirzad’s Court Session Postponed Once Again

HRANA News Agency – The trial of Saeed Shirzad did not take place, because of him refusing to wear prison uniform and consequently, failure to send him.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Saeed Shirzad was supposed to have a trial in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, presided by Judge Salvati, on 15th July, however he was not sent to the court as he refused to wear the prison uniform and despite the presence of his lawyer, the trial did not take place.

Saeed Shirzad, who recently, in his 14th months of detention, has been transferred to political and conscience prisoners’ ward in Rajai Shahr prison, in his last court hearing in April this year, left the court room to demonstrate his objection, because of not being notified in advance, absence of his lawyer, while despite repeated requests, his lawyer had not been able to enter and have access to his client’s case.

This civil activist in protest against this issue, and also, being forced to have handcuffs and shackles, when he is transferred to the court, had already twice refused to participate in the court hearing.

Saeed Shirzad was arrested in his office at Tabriz Refinery, in June 2014, and was taken to Evin Prison first, and later he was exiled to Rajai Shahr prison because of complaining about lack of basic facilities and pursuing prisoners’ problems, although, his trial had not been held yet and he was under temporary detention.

This children’s rights activist, who is active in the field of education for labor children and street children, and also has been charged for supporting and providing education for children of political prisoners, at the first time was arrested in 21st August 2012, when he had gone to Ahar, in East Azerbaijan, to help the earthquake survivors, and was released on a bail after spending 19 days in detention.
