Bahman Ahmadi Amooei, Keyvan Samimi, and Majid Tavakoli on Dry Hunger Strike

HRANA- Three political prisoners on hunger strike in Evin Prison are reportedly in critical condition.

Kalame reports that Bahman Ahmadi Amooei, journalist Keyvan Samimi, and student activist Majid Tavakoli have been on dry hunger strike refusing even water while the rest of the political prisoners on hunger strike are refusing solid foods.

Reports state that of the three on dry hunger strike, Bahman Ahmadi Amooei and Keyvan Samimi have been taken to the prison’s medical facility on one occasion. The families of the hunger strikers are expressing great concern for their loved ones.

Seventeen political prisoners have been on hunger strike for the last ten days. They began their hunger strike after being transferred to solitary confinement for protesting the inhumane treatment and conditions in ward 350 of Evin Prison.

The families have not received responses to their inquiries regarding the matter from any of the relevant authorities. They have asked the judiciary in Tehran to accept the demands of the prisoners so that they will end their hunger strike.

The political prisoners are demanding that their basic rights be recognized as outlined in the guidelines of the department of prisons, the prosecution of prison officials violating those laws, the immediate and unconditional release of photojournalist Babak Bordbar, an end to the overcrowded conditions, more telephone time (prisoners currently given one or two minutes), and access to proper medical and hygiene care.

Student activist Ali Malihi, journalist Hossein Nouraninejad, student activist Abdullah Momeni, student activist Ali Parvis, political activist Hamid Reza Mohammadi, civic activist Jafar Eghdami, photojournalist Babak Bordbar, student activist Zia Nabavi, civic activist and war veteran Ibrahim Nader Babaei, human rights activist and blogger Kouhiar Goudarzi, student activist Majid Dari, Gholam Hossein Arashi, Mohammad Hossein Sohrabi Rad and Peyman Karimi Azad are among the other prisoners who have been on hunger strike for the last ten days.
