HRANA News Agency – In Marivan, Tuesdays are named “the day without vehicles”, therefore some residents use bicycles as means of transportation. But on July 26, police forces prevented women from cycling.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), police forces prevented women from cycling on July 26, on “the day without vehicles”, which is a weekly event.
One of Marivan residents told HRANA’s reporter, “On the day without vehicles which is a weekly event in Marivan, we had some problems. Police forces seized the bicycles of some women and men who were cycling together, and some had to sign a warranty by the police”.
Police force responded to the protests of the residents by excuses like “cycling is banned for the women by Sharia Law” and “it is illegal”, although there is no legal ban for women in this regard.
