HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, at least seven protests and two labour strikes took place in Iran.

About 20 workers of the municipality of Veysian, Lorestan Province walked off the job and went on strike to protest against delays in payments.

The mayor announced that due to this strike the municipality had to shut down. He said that workers’ and employees’ wages have not been fully paid for eight months.

For the third consecutive day, the workers of the Sungun copper mine went on strike and held a protest rally. This protest turned violent when the police attacked and arrested seven protestors.

Dozens of citizens whose digital assets have been frozen in the cryptocurrency exchange Cryptoland for over one year protested in front of the Economic Crimes Courthouse in Tehran.

At the same time, the victims of a gold dealer’s scam gathered before the Tehran Revolutionary Court to ask for expediting the process of this financial case.

In Kermanshah, a number of medical employees held a protest in front of the Lorestan University of Medical Sciences to protest against the post-Covid mass layoff.

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization held a protest in Shush to demand raising up pensions in accordance with Supreme Labor Council’s enactment.

In Yasuj, a number of citizens protested against local authorities’ failure to protect the oak forests in the area against caterpillar pests.

On Monday, July 4, 2022, three protests and one labour strike took place in Iran.

In Dorud and Shushter, the pensioners of the Social Security Organization continued their protests against the insufficient annual pension increase. They chanted, ” They are lying that our enemy is America, our enemy is right here,” and “our wage in Rial, cost of living in Dollar.”

A group of minibus drivers in Bandar Abbas gathered in front of the governor-general building to protest against the recent decrease in fuel portions and crowded gas stations.

Last Sunday, the employees of the municipality of Zarneh, Ilam Province, went on strike to demand their unpaid wages and benefits.

On Saturday, July 2, 2022, fourteen protests took place in Iran. Read our review below for details, photos, and videos from these demonstrations:

Continuing their protests against the insufficient annual pension increase, the pensioners rallied in Shushtar, Shush, Zanjan, Isfahan, Sari, Dezful, Karaj, Ahvaz, Abadan, Khorramabad, Hamedan and Kerman. They chanted slogans against the government and called the president a liar for failing to keep his promises. In Arak, the protest turned violent by security forces.

A number of citizens, who have lost their money in the recent robbery of Iran Safe Deposit Boxes of Melli Bank, protested in front of the central building of the Judiciary in Tehran. They demanded the return of their stolen money.

On June 6, 2022, dozens of safe deposit boxes from Melli Bank were stolen by some burglars. One day after, a protest took place, which turned violent by security forces. According to some witnesses, the police and security agents used live ammunition against the protestors.

On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, two protests took place in Iran.

A number of personnel of the Ministry of Petroleum from various cities gathered in Tehran in front of the building of this ministry to demand fair wages and improvements in pension funds.

In Ahvaz, the pensioners continued their protest in front of the Governor’s office. According to the protestors, the government is obliged to increase the pensions in compliance with the Supreme Labour Council’s enactment.

Iranian pensioners continued their protest in front of the Governor-General building in Ahvaz to demand increasing pensions. According to the protestors, the government is obliged to increase the pensions in compliance with the Supreme Labour Council’s enactment.

In Sarab, East Azerbaijan Province, a number of students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences gathered at campus to protest against the deputy dean’s incompetency.

A group of citizens who have lost money by the car dealership Ramak Khodro’s failure to deliver their purchased cars held a protest before Tehran Courthouse.

For the second consecutive day, the overhaul technicians of the Tehran Oil Refinery Company staged a strike in protest against increasing compulsory working overtime.

A number of medical interns of The University of Medical Sciences of Shahrekord went on strike in protest against not receiving internship wages and Covid bonuses.

Continuing their protests, the pensioners of the Social Security Organization gathered before the Governor-General building in Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province.

The workers of the Iran Ofogh Industrial Development Company (and its two subsidiary companies) went on strike to protest against delays in payments. Reportedly, drivers and workers have not been paid for five and three months respectively.

The overhaul technicians of the Tehran Oil Refinery Company went on a strike in protest against increasing compulsory working overtime.

A group of workers of the Tehran Darugar Company held a protest against a three-month delay in payments. According to these workers, the employer’s claim that the raw materials are in short supply is baseless and ingredients of shampoo and detergent are available on the market.

The workers and personnel of the Railway Services and Technical Construction Engineering Company Rezwan Dorud gathered and protested in a railway station in Zarand City, Yazd Province, to ask for levelling up wages.

A group of pensioners of the Social Security Organization gathered before the Governor’s office in Ahvaz to ask for their demands.

A number of workers of Azarpark Company gathered in front of this company office in Tabriz to protest against a three months delay in wages and the company’s decision not to raise the wages.

A number of residents of Zahedan gathered before the National Iranian Oil Company to protest against the revocation of their fuel ration cards.

The scaffold workers of the contractor company Salahshur working in the oil industry went on strike to ask for increasing wages and a shift work schedule with 20 days working followed by 10 days off.

On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, a number of protests and scaffold workers’ strikes took place in different cities across Iran.

A group of workers of the Khorramshahr Municipality gathered in front of the governor’s office in this city to protest against a two-month delay in payments and other unpaid benefits. They said that the municipality has not paid its insurance contribution for 17 months.

The workers of Agro-Industry Complex Karoon rallied in Shushtar. They asked for the CEO’s removal. Despite the ministry of Justice’s order for deposing the CEO due to hoarding sugar, he has not yet been removed from the office.

Like the previous days, the pensioner of the Social Security Organization gathered before the governor’s office in Ahvaz.

In Pardis City, a number of citizens who have pre-purchased apartments in a housing construction project known as Mehr, gathered and protested in front of Omran Pardis New Town Company. After 11 years, they still have not received their apartments.

A number of scaffold workers of several petrochemical companies in Asaluyeh, Kangan, Bushehr and Damavand walked off the job and staged a strike. They demanded increasing wages and a shift work schedule with 20 days working followed by 10 days off.

 

Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, a number of protests and two workers’ strikes took place in different cities across Iran.

In Mashhad, a number of taxi drivers went on strike to demand increasing fares and protest against their poor living conditions.

The pensioners of social security organizations continued their protests in the cities of Ahvaz and Kermanshah. They chanted slogans for levelling up pensions in accordance with the Supreme Labor Council’s enactment.

A group of workers of Ilam Municipality gathered and protested against a four-month payment delay, including night-shift wage, and insurance. Following this gathering, the chairman of the Ilam City Council announced that their wages will be paid soon.

A number of building armature fixing workers working gathered in a park in Kermanshah to protest against low wages, the lack of insurance coverage and poor living conditions.

The workers of seven industrial zones across Iran went on strike for the fourth consecutive day.

Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Monday, June 20, 2022, a number of protests took place in different cities across Iran.

The laid-off workers of Ahan Ajin Mining Company, working in the Sungun copper mine, gathered and protested before this company office.

The Social Security Organization’s pensioners continued their protest for levelling up pensions in the cities of Kerman, Rasht and Zanjan.

A number of workers of the Lali Municipality in Khuzestan Province gathered and protested against delayed wags and insurance payments.

A group of truck owners protested in front of the Fuel Transportation Management department to ask for their demands.

In Urmia city, a number of garbage truck drivers staged a strike in protest against low wages.

In Mashhad, the drivers of the Negin Pakhsh Company went on strike to ask for their demands.
