Morteza Rahim Tayefeh Kept in Prison despite Physical Difficulties

HRANA News Agency – Morteza Rahim Tayefeh, 70, suffers from variety of diseases because of aging and is held in a bad condition in Hall 12 of ward seven in Evin prison. Although, he could been qualified to be released through parole, but the authorities ignore his condition.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Morteza Rahim Tayefeh, retired Army colonel, who has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with a security charge, has already spent half of his sentence (5 years) in prison.
Considering Morteza Rahim Tayefeh’s diseases and his ageing, he is eligible for the Leadership’s amnesty related to ill political-security prisoners and over 60s, but the judicial-security authorities, despite his illness and age have refused it so far.
A source close to this retired Army colonel told HRANA’s reported: “Mr. Rahim Tayefeh had requested amnesty which with his insistence and following the issue, was sent to the hospital to be examined by the relevant Medical Commission. However, he was notified that he has to pay the cost of forensic and the doctor, otherwise his amnesty would be rejected”.
The source continued: “According to the prison regulations the cost of the Medical Commission must be paid by the prison, and regarding to Mr. Tayefeh, this is only to put him under pressure through Evin clinic and judicial authorities”.
Earlier HRANA had released a list of 55 political-security prisoners in Evin prison who have been arrested, detained or sentenced with charges such as “relation with enemy states” or “espionage”.
