HRANA – Kazem Alinejad, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, remains on hunger strike. He began his strike on October 16, 2026, in protest against being denied medical services and adequate medical care. Five days into the strike, his demands have yet to be addressed.
According to HRANA, Kazem Alinejad, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, is now on the fifth day of his hunger strike.
Alinejad began his hunger strike on Friday, October 16, 2026, in protest against the denial of medical services, lack of access to necessary medications, and prison authorities’ disregard for his physical health. Five days after the strike began, his demands for medical care remain unmet, and he continues his hunger strike.
The political prisoner suffers from heart, lung, and kidney conditions, as well as diabetes and high blood pressure. Despite these serious health issues, he has been denied access to some of his essential medications. His insulin intake has also increased due to elevated blood sugar levels, while his repeated requests to be transferred to medical facilities outside the prison have gone unanswered.
A source familiar with the prisoner’s situation told HRANA: “Officials from Evin Prison’s security department presented Kazem Alinejad with a document described as a ‘repentance letter’ and demanded that he sign it. Requiring prisoners to sign such documents as a condition for receiving privileges, including parole and medical furlough, has become a common practice in Evin Prison. Meanwhile, Alinejad’s repeated requests for hospitalization and parole have remained unanswered, and he has refused to sign the document.”
The source further stated: “Following Alinejad’s refusal to sign the document, prison authorities suspended his telephone privileges. In protest against this measure, the prisoner has sewn his lips shut while continuing his hunger strike.”
Kazem Alinejad had previously also been denied access to medical services and adequate medical care.
In April 2024, Branch 36 of the Tehran Province Court of Appeals sentenced Alinejad to five years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security.” The same court acquitted him of other charges, including “insulting religious sanctities” and “propaganda against the regime.”
In January 2024, Alinejad was tried alongside 10 other political defendants in a joint case before Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court and sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison. He was also sentenced to a two-year ban on residing in Tehran Province and neighboring provinces, a ban on membership in political and social groups, and confiscation of his mobile phone.
On November 20, 2023, Alinejad was arrested by security forces in Eslamshahr and transferred to Ward 4 of Evin Prison approximately one month later.
Kazem Alinejad Baraloo has previously faced arrest and conviction in connection with his activities.
