HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Monday, August 15, 2022, at least five protests took place in Iran.

The farmers who are cultivating rapeseed gathered in front of the governor’s office in Behbahan, Khuzestan Province to demand the rest of the payment for their sold rapeseed crops from the government.

The farmers from Isfahan Province gathered in front of Isfahan Water and Waste Water Company to protest against the authorities mismanagement and inattention toward drying up the river Zayandeh-Rud.

For the third consecutive day, a group of truck drivers demonstrated before the Governor’s Office in Sirik county, Hormozgan Province in protest against cutting their fuels portion following readjustments according to a new fuel portion scheme.

A number of residents of Hendijan, Khuzestan Province, rallied against frequent power outages.

A number of civil rights and women’s rights activists demonstrated against Sepideh Rashno’s detention. They asked the authorities to inform the public about Rashno’s conditions and whereabouts, and asked for her release.

Artist Rashno is in custody for her resistance and confrontation against an individual who was enforcing the Hejab code in public transportation, a practice which is praised by the Iranian authorities.

On Saturday, August 13, and Sunday, August 14, 2022, at least eighteen protests took place in Iran.

Sunday, August 14

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization demonstrated in Ahvaz, Kermanshah Shush, Karkheh, Haft-Tappeh, Rasht, Bojnurd, Ardabil and Babol in protest against the insufficient increase in pensions.

A group of poultry farmers demonstrated before the Parliament in Tehran to protest against the low fixed chicken price and the supply shortage of livestock inputs.

A number of shareholders of Sepahan Oil Company gathered before the company building in Tehran and protested against mismanagement and not addressing their issues.

 

The telecommunication staff gathered before this organization in Urmia to protest against the seven-month non-payment of premiums and other issues.

A group of oil industry employees protested against low salaries, unfair working hours and high taxes by publishing their pictures with placards in their hands at their workplace. They also demanded the calculation of their salaries based on article 10 of the Duties and Responsibilities Laws for oil industry employees.

In Sanandaj, the green maintenance workers protested in front of the municipality to protest against poor living conditions and unpaid wages and end-of-year bonuses.

For the second consecutive day, a group of truck drivers demonstrated before the Governor’s office in Sirik county, Hormozgan Province. Reportedly, the fuel portions of these drivers have been cut due to adjusting a new fuel portion scheme.

 

Saturday, August 13

A number of workers of the Abadan Oil refining Company protested before the central building of this company to protest against the delay in payments and the increase in taxes.

A number of citizens with disability (muscular dystrophy) protested against the medicine shortage in front of the Presidential Administration Office in Tehran.

A number of employees of Water and Wastewater Companies in Hormozgan Province gathered before the Governor-General Office to demand three-month unpaid wages.

On Thursday, August 11, at least three protests took place in Iran.

A number of truck drivers gathered at the Bazargan border crossing in West Azerbaijan Province to protest against the frequent blackouts of the Customs’ electronic systems and officials’ incompetency.

With placards in their hands, a number of employees, working in the oil industry, protested to demand higher wages and the enforcement of enacted regulations regarding working hours and taxation.

In Isfahan, a number of farmers gathered before the Water and Waste Water Company of Isfahan Province and protested against water shortage.

On Wednesday, August 10, at least 10 protests and one labour strike took place in Iran.

The retirees of Iran Air (The National Airline of Iran) gathered before this Airline pension fund in Tehran to protest against the merger of the fund and the Civil Servants Pension Organization.

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization continued their protest in Khorramabad, Kermanshah, Babol, Rasht, Arak and Kerman. During their rally in Kermanshah, three pensioners were arrested but released after a few hours.

 

 

The residents of the village Dariab in Lorestan Province protested against the pollution of their village by the sewage of an industrial town. As a protest, they blocked the road connecting this industrial town to the village.

In Kermanshah, truck drivers went on strike in protest against their poor living conditions, low fares, expensive auto parts and fuel shortage.

On Tuesday, August 9, at least 10 protests took place in Iran.

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization took to the streets again and rallied in Ahvaz, Shush, Arak, Shushtar, Dezful, Tehran and Isfahan. They asked to free imprisoned pensioners and levelling up pensions in accordance with Supreme Labor Council’s enactment.

A number of residents of Bazoft, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, gathered before the district governor’s office to protest against the local authorities’ inattention to address the pollution of drinking water. They hanged bottles of polluted water to the entrance door of the district governor’s office.

The workers of the Aram Pars Company working in the petrochemical industry went on strike in protest against delayed wages.

A number of workers of a contractor company working in Mashhad’s Power Plant gathered before the company entrance to ask for wages.

Workers’ Rights Activist Kamyar Fakoor Sentenced to Three Years

Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced workers’ rights activist Kamyar Fakoor to three years in prison. If the verdict is confirmed on appeal, based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, two years for one charge will be enforceable.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, workers’ rights activist Kamyar Fakoor was sentenced to two years on the charge of “spreading falsehood” and one year on the charge of “propaganda against the regime”.

An informed source told HRANA that peaceful activities such as protests against the destruction of the environment, defending workers’ rights activists and publishing news about workers’ protests and strikes were presented during the trial as evidence to substantiate the charges.

On Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7, at least 8 protests took place in Iran.

The workers of the Regional Electricity Organization in Hormozgan, Khuzestan and East Azerbaijan Provinces gathered before this organization building in each city. According to these protestors, six months after the beginning of the year, the company has not yet announced how much their salaries will increase.

The pensioners continued their protests in Ardabil, Arak and Ahvaz. They asked to free imprisoned pensioners and levelling up pensions in accordance with Supreme Labor Council’s enactment.

A number of residents of Shadegan, Khuzestan Province, gathered before the Regional Electricity Organization to protest against frequent power blackouts.

On Sunday, August 7, the volunteer firefighters of the NGO Anjoman Sabz Chia gathered before the Governor’s office in Mariwan to protest against the local authorities’ inattention to recent wildfires.

On Wednesday, August 3, at least three protests took place in Iran.

A number of workers of the Zanjan Regional Electricity Company gathered in front of the company building to demand a fair increase in wages. According to these protestors, six months after the beginning of the year, the company has not yet announced how much their salaries will increase.

The Governor-General’s staff gathered in front of The Governor-General’s building in Ilam to protest against not addressing their issues.

In Ardabil, a number of pensioners of the Social Security Organization continued their protests.

On Sunday, July 31, at least 16 protests took place in Iran.

In Tehran, Kermanshah, Shahrekord, Karaj, Tabriz, Urmia, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Bojnurd, and Sanandaj, the pensioners of the state-owned Iran Telecommunication Company held protests against the non-payment and reduction of their benefits. In Tehran, the police dispersed the protest gathering and several pensioners were arrested.

 

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization continued their protests in front of this organization in Rasht and Kermanshah.

In Ahvaz, the pensioners held a protest together with Ahvaz National Steel Industrial Group workers and the nurses of a hospital in front of the Ahvaz Governor-General Building.

 

The workers of the detergent manufacturing company Darugar continued their protests in front of the factory entrance to ask for five-month delayed wages and insurance payments.

On Saturday, July 31, 2022, a number of pensioners gathered and protested in front of the Social Security Organization in Shush, Karkheh, Ahvaz and Arak. They chanted, “the jailed worker must be released” and “Jailed pensioner must be released.”

The workers of the detergent manufacturing company Darugar gathered before the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare to ask for their unpaid wages.
