Sotudeh Fazeli in Undecided Situation in Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Sotudeh Fazeli, 64, retired teacher and political prisoner, is serving in Evin prison while she is suffering from multiple diseases. She is a cancer survivor and finished the chemotherapy very recently, in addition to her medical problems and not having a fair trial, she has lost her mother during past weeks. Despite the death of her mother and norm of bureau of prisons, her request for a furlough even for few hours was rejected.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Sotudeh Fazeli is a 64-year-old prisoner who is being kept in women’s ward in Evin prison. She was arrested in 2011 by intelligence service and after 31 days in ward 209, was released temporarily in March 2011.

Sometimes later, she was summoned to the revolutionary court and tried by Abulghasem Salavati. Even though her 3 years of imprisonment on charge of acts against the national security was told her orally, but she never received any formal document.

Because the sentence is not officially announced, she could not appeal. This senior prisoner was arrested on June 9, 2016 and transferred to women’s ward in Evin prison, in order to serve her 3 years.

Sotudeh Fazeli is diagnosed with thalassemia, and very recently finished the chemotherapy sessions. In the current condition, proper medical treatment is not available for her. She is also suffering from high blood pressure, and eye disease.

During past week, her family requested a furlough so that she could attend her mother’s funeral which was rejected by the prosecutor and the prosecutor deputy, Mr. Haji Moradi.

Masoumeh Haj ABdulrahim Khabaz, Mrs. Fazeli’s mother had requested to see her daughter in the last days of her life, which was denied despite the efforts made by the family for the approval of the furlough and even consent of Mrs. Fazeli to be transferred with handcuffs and in escort, and only for few hours.

Need to be mentioned, Mrs. Fazeli’s brother, Seyed Shamsodin Fazeli was arrested in 1982 and after three years of being in an undecided condition executed in 1985, without noticing the family and when he was only 20, by fire squad.

Mrs. Fazeli had worked for 30 years as a teacher and principal in educational system and was retired recently.

Hot Water; A Constant Problem in Women’s Ward of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Cutting out the warm water in women’s ward of Evin prisoners has started since one month ago. This lack of access is while health facilities is in its minimum level and caused health and hygienic problems. Women in this ward also suffer from lack of access to warm and cooling system.

Daemi Sisters Sentenced to 91 Days of Imprisonment

HRANA News Agency – Daemi sisters (Athena, Ensieh and Haniyeh) were sentenced to three months and one day imprisonment each, by branch 1162 of Quds judiciary complex in Tehran. According to the decree, Ensieh and Haniyeh Daemi’s sentences have been suspended for one year.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), this decree has cleared Athena Daemi and her sisters of the alleged refusal to execute an arrest warrant, but Branch 1162 Penal Court of Tehran, presided by Judge Ali Babaei, on charge of “insulting officers in the line of duty” says: “Charges are clear and indisputable, and according to Article 609 of the Penal Code Act of 1978, each defendant has been sentenced to three months and one day imprisonment, counting the days of previous detention, and by considering specific circumstances of the second and third row of the accused, the court do not interest to sentence them now and according to the articles 46 and 49 of the Penal Code Act of 2013, has suspended the sentence for one year”. Women’s Ward of Evin Prison: 9 Prisoners Went to Furlough, 2 Returned to Prison

HRANA News Agency – Maryam (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran, Fatemeh Mothanna, and Sotoudeh Fazel were sent on a 6-day long leave from women’s Ward of Evin prison. Of this ward, also ladies; Leila Jafari, Maryam Olengi, Azita Rafi Zadeh, Zahra (Nadereh) Rastgoo, Ameneh Jaberi, and Elham Barmaki had been sent to leave, on March 19 and 20, and Maryam Olengi and Azita Rafizadeh have returned to the Ward on March 26 and 29, respectively. On the other hand, Mehdi and Hossein Rajabian, two imprisoned artist brothers in ward eight of Evin prison were sent on a four-day medical leave, on March 28.

Sohaila Kargar Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Sohaila Kargar, Turk (Azeri) activist, was sentenced to 5 years in prison on charge of membership in a group with the intension of distorting public order.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), judge Zoughi of branch number one of the revolutionary court of Qazvin, sentenced Sohaila Kargar, Turk (Azeri) activist to 5 years in prison, based on article 499 of Islamic penal code, on charge of membership in a group with the intention of distorting public order. 4 Women Transferred to Solitary Confinements of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Tahereh Riyahi, Masoumeh Zia, Mahsa Raja`ti, and Mehrak Karimpoor, 4 civil rights activists were transferred from women’s ward in Evin prison to solitary confinements in ward 241 (security of judiciary). Ms. Karimpoor returned to the ward one day later, but three others are still in solitary confinement of ward 241, and due to this reason were deprived of visiting their families.

Marjan Davari’s Lawyers Appealed against the Her Death Sentence

HRANA News Agency – One of the lawyers of Marjan Davari, researcher and translator on death row told, “we have objected the verdict but the court has not set a branch.” Marjan Davari, 50, after being transferred from women’s ward of Evin prison to the prison in Rey (Qarchak Women’s Prison) in February, was sentenced to death. One of the charges against Ms. Davari is membership in the emerging movement of “Eckankar”.

4 Activists Transferred to Women’s Ward of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Tahereh Riyahi, Masoumeh Zia, Mahsa Raj`ati, and Mehrak Karimpoor are four civil rights activists who were mainly active in the field of news coverage, and were arrested in late December and early January. They were transferred to general female ward after more than two months, from solitary confinement of ward 209.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Mahsa Ra`ati, 36, was arrested on January 2, Tahereh Riyahi, 35, journalist and editor of Borna press was arrested on January 4, Masoumeh (Pegah) Zia, 39, was arrested on January 4 and Mehrak Karimpoor Andalibi, 24, was arrested on December 27. Deami Sisters Trial Held in Tehran

HRANA News Agency – On March 12, 2017, the trial of Atena Daemi and her sisters, Ensie and Hanye was held. The 3 sisters were charged with “obstruction of execution and insulting officials.”
