Yilmaz Mehrali Beiglou Arrested in Jolfa County

HRANA News Agency – On July 21, attorney Yilmaz Mehrali Beiglou was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in Jolfa County and taken to an undisclosed location. The agents also searched his father’s home.

A source close to the family confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “Mr. Mehrali Beiglou was arrested today by Ministry of Intelligence agents in Jolfa County. After the arrest, he was transferred to an undisclosed location. Following the arrest, the agents searched his father’s house and confiscated some of his personal belongings.”

On May 26 of 2024, a preliminary hearing for Mehrali Beiglou was held in Branch 1 of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Public and Revolutionary Court in Jolfa. He had previously been summoned to the same branch via an official notice.

In 2024, a total of 2,783 Iranian citizens were arrested by security and judicial authorities due to their beliefs, opinions, or political and civil activities. Over the past decade, the number of such arrests has exceeded 56,000. The highest number of arrests occurred in 2022, during the nationwide protests, when HRANA documented 23,977 detentions.

Two Prisoners Executed in Tabriz Prison

HRANA News Agency – On April 23, 2025, two prisoners previously sentenced to death on separate drug-related charges were executed in Tabriz Prison.

Iran Human Rights have identified them as Mehran Zolfi, 27, from Tabriz, and Asghar Nouri-Nia, 35, from Jolfa.

According to the report, Zolfi had been detained for four years and Nouri-Nia for five years, both on drug-related charges. They were ultimately sentenced to death in separate cases by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, the executions have not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran documented 812 cases related to the right to life, including the sentencing of 214 individuals to death and the execution of 930 individuals. Among these, 4 executions were carried out in public. Of those executed, 818 were male, 26 were female, and 5 were juvenile offenders—individuals under 18 years old at the time of their alleged crimes.

200 Citizens Facing Legal Charges in Isfahan Over Comments on Raeisi’s Death

The Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Isfahan has announced the initiation of legal proceedings against 200 citizens for posting remarks concerning the helicopter crash that resulted in the death of Ebrahim Raeisi.

The prosecutor stated, “More than 200 individuals who spread false news and offensive remarks regarding the helicopter crash incident involving Ebrahim Raeisi have been identified.” Seyed Mohammad Mousavian elaborated that these individuals would face legal actions as per the directives of the country’s Prosecutor-General and the emphatic instructions of the head of Isfahan’s Judiciary.

The identities of these individuals have not been disclosed in the report.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, May 19th, when a helicopter transporting President Raisi, along with several officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, crashed in the Dizmar forest between Varzaqan and Jolfa. Official media confirmed the deaths of Raisi and his companions the following morning after the crash site and wreckage were located. Numerous citizens have since been arrested or subjected to legal proceedings for expressing their opinions on the incident, which the authorities have deemed inappropriate.

Couple Executed for Drug Offenses in Tabriz Prison

According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, a couple was executed in Tabriz Prison on March 18, 2024, for their involvement in drug-related crimes.

Yasin Zolfaghari and his unidentified wife, coming from Jolfa, East Azerbaijan province, were convicted in the same legal case before facing execution.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of their executions at the time of writing. In 2023, 66% of HRANA’s reports on executions lacked official announcements by judicial authorities and went unreported by media inside Iran, highlighting a troubling lack of transparency in due process.
