Judicial Interference Delays Medical Evaluation for Ailing Political Prisoner Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh

Political prisoner Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh is suffering from poor health, yet his request for medical evaluation due to his inability to endure imprisonment has not been referred to forensic medicine due to the intervention of judicial authorities.

A source close to the family confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “Mr. Raisi Yeganeh is suffering from multiple health issues, and despite his request for an assessment of his inability to endure imprisonment, the case has not been referred to forensic medicine due to interference by judicial authorities.”

The source mentioned that Raisi Yeganeh suffers from hand tremors, shortness of breath, and worsening psychological issues. The source added, “Mosayeb has also been deprived of proper medical care in prison.”

Yeganeh was arrested by security forces at his home in Tehran on April 17, 2023, and transferred to Evin Prison.

In December last year, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Iman Afshari, sentenced him to a total of 23 years and 8 months in prison. According to HRANA’s information, 7 years of this sentence has been confirmed.

Having a history of mental health issues, Raisi Yeganeh attempted suicide on March 7, 2024, by ingesting pills and was transferred to Loghman Hospital. Despite not completing his treatment, he was returned to Evin Prison.

Raisi Yeganeh, aged around 41, has previously been arrested and imprisoned for his activism.

Political Prisoner Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh Attempts Suicide, Hospitalized

Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh, a political prisoner in Evin Prison, attempted suicide by ingesting pills, leading to his hospitalization.

A source close to Raisi Yeganeh’s family confirmed the incident, stating, “On Wednesday evening, March 6, Raisi Yeganeh attempted suicide by taking nerve pills. Today, a few of his fellow inmates noticed his lethargy and informed prison officials. Subsequently, he was transferred to Lughman Hospital. Since then, we have not been informed about his well-being.”

Raisi Yeganeh was apprehended by security forces at his residence in Tehran on April 17, 2023, and has been held in Ward 8 of Evin Prison. In December 2023, Judge Iman Afshari, presiding over Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, sentenced him to 23 years and eight months in prison. It is important to note that Raisi Yeganeh has a history of previous arrests and convictions related to his activism.

In 2023, the Department of Statistics of Human Rights Activists in Iran recorded seven deaths resulting from illness, twelve suicides, one case of self-immolation, and four instances of prisoners being murdered within prisons nationwide.

Former Political Prisoner Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh Arrested

On April 17, 2023, security forces arrested former political prisoner Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh in Tehran and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on April 17, 2023, Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh was arrested in Tehran.

The location of his detention and allegations are still unknown.

Yeganeh was also arrested by security forces over protests, for a short time on February 25, 2023.

The Ministry of Intelligence agents previously arrested Yeganeh in September 2017. Subsequently, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to six years imprisonment for “propaganda against the regime, blasphemy, insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran.” This verdict was upheld on appeal. Ultimately, on February 4, 2020, he was jailed in Evin Prison to serve his sentence.

After the fire incident at Evin Prison on October 15, 2022, Yeganeh was relocated to Rajai Shahr Prison, and after a while, he was released from jail without prior notice.

On February 25, 2023, security forces arrested former political prisoner Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh in Tehran and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on February 25, 2023, Mosayeb Raisi Yeganeh was arrested by security forces in Tehran.

An informed source told HRANA, IRGC intelligence forces beat and arrested him at his home in Tehran.
Yeganeh was previously arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence agents in September 2017. Subsequently, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to six years imprisonment for “propaganda against the regime, blasphemy, insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran.” This verdict was upheld on appeal. Ultimately, on February 4, 2020, he was jailed in Evin Prison to serve his sentence.

After the fire incident at Evin Prison on October 15, 2022, Yeganeh was relocated to Rajai Shahr Prison and after a while, he was released from jail without prior notice.
His whereabouts and the allegation are still unknown.
