Execution of a Prisoner in Gachsaran Prison

HRANA – Yesterday, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out in Gachsaran Prison.

The inmate was hanged at dawn on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. HRANA has identified him as Valiollah Avazpour, a father and resident of Gachsaran.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Avazpour was arrested about 13 years ago on a charge of murder and subsequently sentenced to death by the Criminal Court.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been announced by prison officials or other relevant authorities.

HRANA – On September 2, two prisoners were executed in Aligudarz Prison. They had previously been sentenced to death on charges of murder.

HRANA has identified them as Mahan Rashidi and Yaghoub Derikvand.

Based on information received by HRANA, they had previously been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death by criminal courts.

As of the time of this report, the executions have not been announced by prison officials or the relevant authorities.

HRANA – At dawn today, September 3, the death sentences of three prisoners were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison. These prisoners had previously been sentenced to death in separate cases on charges related to drug offenses.

HRANA has identified one of the executed prisoners as 42-year-old Sajad Sadeghi from Kuhdasht.

Based on information obtained by HRANA, these prisoners had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. Yesterday, HRANA also reported that four death-row prisoners were executed in this facility.

As of the time of this report, the executions have not been announced by prison authorities or official institutions.

According to HRANA’s statistics, Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj carried out the highest number of executions among all Iranian prisons, with 150 inmates hanged. This figure has nearly doubled compared to the previous year – a deeply alarming increase that underscores the escalating use of capital punishment in Iran.

Execution of Four Prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj

HRANA – Today, September 2, four prisoners were executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

HRANA has identified one of the executed prisoners as Hooman Geravand from Kuhdasht. He had previously been arrested on drug-related charges, sentenced to death, and spent 18 years in prison.

The identities of the three other prisoners are still under investigation. One of them had earlier been sentenced to death by the court on charges of membership in the “ISIS” group.

The two remaining prisoners were executed despite no details of their cases being released, and judicial authorities have yet to officially confirm their executions.

HRANA – At dawn today, Tuesday, September 2, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on a murder charge was executed in Zanjan Prison.

The prisoner hanged has been identified by HRANA as Bijan Hosseinpanah (Hossein-Panah).

Based on information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Hosseinpanah had earlier been arrested on charges of murder and subsequently sentenced to death by the Criminal Court.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not announced this execution.

HRANA- On Sunday, August 31, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges was executed in Arak Prison.

HRANA has identified the prisoner hanged at dawn today as Jasem Nowruzi. Based on information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Nowruzi had earlier been arrested on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, prison officials and relevant institutions have not announced this execution.

Political Prisoner Mohammad-Bagher Bakhtiar Transferred from Evin Prison to Hospital

HRANA – Mohammad-Bagher Bakhtiar, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, was transferred to Taleghani Hospital in Tehran four days ago due to deteriorating health and remains under medical care.

His daughter, Hanieh Bakhtiar, stated: “For the past four days, my father, Mohammad-Bagher Bakhtiar, has been hospitalized due to health problems after being transferred from Evin Prison. Since yesterday, his hands have been cuffed to the hospital bed. My father suffers from multiple illnesses that require proper medical attention. Holding him in Evin Prison under such conditions poses serious risks.”

In May 2025, Bakhtiar was taken to Evin Prison to serve a two-year prison sentence, six months of which was set to be carried out under electronic monitoring.

He had been arrested on February 13, 2025, during a gathering protesting the continued house arrest of three political figures, and spent more than a month in detention before his sentencing.

Three Prisoners Executed in Urmia Prison

HRANA – on Sunday, August 31, the death sentences of three prisoners previously convicted of murder in separate cases were carried out in Urmia Prison.

According to HRANA, the three prisoners executed at dawn on Sunday have been identified as Javad Ali, Rahman Javan, and Morteza Zichi, all residents of Urmia.

Based on information received by HRANA, these individuals had been arrested on murder charges in separate cases and later sentenced to death by criminal courts.

On Saturday, August 30, the three prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for their executions. Another prisoner was also moved to solitary for execution but was returned to the general ward after the victim’s family granted consent and forgave him.

As of the time of this report, the executions of these three prisoners have not been announced by prison officials or relevant authorities.

Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj: Eight Prisoners Transferred to Solitary Confinement for Execution

HRANA – Yesterday, eight prisoners in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, were transferred to solitary confinement in preparation for the implementation of their sentences.

Based on information received by HRANA, these prisoners had been arrested on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by Revolutionary Courts.

HRANA is currently working to confirm the identities of the prisoners.

It is noteworthy that simultaneously with their transfer, the execution of Soleiman Koushki—who had also been sentenced to death on similar charges—was carried out in this prison.

According to HRANA’s monthly report, 153 people were executed in Iran last month. With eight months having passed in the current year, the number of executions has reached 837, which, compared to 930 executions in the entire previous year, reflects a concerning rise.

Execution of Two Prisoners in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz

HRANA – At dawn yesterday, Sunday, the death sentences of two prisoners previously convicted of murder were carried out in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the two prisoners were executed at dawn on Sunday, August 31. HRANA has confirmed their identities as Esmaeil Delavar and Arman Reyhani.

Based on information received by HRANA, the two had been arrested on murder charges and later sentenced to death by criminal courts.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and responsible institutions have not announced these executions.

According to HRANA’s statistics, in 2024, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz witnessed the execution of 92 inmates — an 88% increase compared to the previous year. This sharp rise places Adelabad as the second deadliest prison in Iran after Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
