HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

A number of medical interns of the Yazd Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences gathered on campus to demand unpaid Covid bonuses, internship wages and amenities Improvements for interns.

A number of workers of the Sungun copper mine located in Varzaqan county, East Azarbaijan went on strike and assembled at their workplace in protest against the arrest of two workers and other labour issues.

On Tuesday, July 5, two mining workers identified as Valiollah Mahmoodi and Arshad Kazempour were arrested by security forces and transferred to an unidentified location. For several months, the workers of this mining company have been protesting for their demands such as the implementation of the Job Classification plan.

 

A group of personnel of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad protested in front of the Planning and Budget Organization in Tehran. According to the protestors, their wages are disproportionately lower than other government employees. This protest led to the arrest of several protestors by security forces.

The personnel of the Ilam Tele-communication Company went on strike and gathered at company premises. They protested against the company’s new recruitment policy, whereby an applicant with more than thirty years of work experience will not be prioritized anymore.

 

A group of workers on the Shafarud Dam in Rezvanshahr gathered in front of the Governor’s office to demand their seven-month unpaid wages.
In Kermanshah, the pensioners of the Social Security Organization gathered before the Pension Fund office and then demonstrated in the streets. Similar protests took place in Bandar Abbas, Dorud and Mazandaran Province.

A number of members of the housing cooperation of the Zanjan University of Medical Sciences held a protest in front of the Ministry of Labour in Zanjan to protest against the member board’s violation of the regulation.

On Monday, July 4, 2022, three protests and one labour strike took place in Iran.

In Dorud and Shushter, the pensioners of the Social Security Organization continued their protests against the insufficient annual pension increase. They chanted, ” They are lying that our enemy is America, our enemy is right here,” and “our wage in Rial, cost of living in Dollar.”

A group of minibus drivers in Bandar Abbas gathered in front of the governor-general building to protest against the recent decrease in fuel portions and crowded gas stations.

Last Sunday, the employees of the municipality of Zarneh, Ilam Province, went on strike to demand their unpaid wages and benefits.

On Saturday, July 2, 2022, fourteen protests took place in Iran. Read our review below for details, photos, and videos from these demonstrations:

Continuing their protests against the insufficient annual pension increase, the pensioners rallied in Shushtar, Shush, Zanjan, Isfahan, Sari, Dezful, Karaj, Ahvaz, Abadan, Khorramabad, Hamedan and Kerman. They chanted slogans against the government and called the president a liar for failing to keep his promises. In Arak, the protest turned violent by security forces.

A number of citizens, who have lost their money in the recent robbery of Iran Safe Deposit Boxes of Melli Bank, protested in front of the central building of the Judiciary in Tehran. They demanded the return of their stolen money.

On June 6, 2022, dozens of safe deposit boxes from Melli Bank were stolen by some burglars. One day after, a protest took place, which turned violent by security forces. According to some witnesses, the police and security agents used live ammunition against the protestors.

In Ahvaz, a number of pensioners continued their protest in front of the Governor’s office. They chanted slogans against the government and called the president a liar. According to the protestors, the government is obliged to increase the pensions in compliance with the Supreme Labour Council’s enactment.

A number of farmers and tractor drivers parked their tractors and gathered before the Governor’s office in Gatvand city, Khuzestan Province, to protest against decreasing fuel rations.

In recent days, the personnel of Keshavarzi Bank gathered in front of the headquarter of this bank as well as a chapel inside the building to protest against their poor living conditions.

A number of the medical staff of the Allameh Karami Hospital in Ahvaz held a protest to ask for their unpaid wages and benefits.

The citizens who lost their money in the cryptocurrency exchange Cryptoland gathered in front of the Public and Revolutionary Court in Tehran to ask for the return of their money. Reportedly, their deposits in the form of cryptocurrencies have been frozen.

On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, two protests took place in Iran.

A number of personnel of the Ministry of Petroleum from various cities gathered in Tehran in front of the building of this ministry to demand fair wages and improvements in pension funds.

In Ahvaz, the pensioners continued their protest in front of the Governor’s office. According to the protestors, the government is obliged to increase the pensions in compliance with the Supreme Labour Council’s enactment.

Iranian pensioners continued their protest in front of the Governor-General building in Ahvaz to demand increasing pensions. According to the protestors, the government is obliged to increase the pensions in compliance with the Supreme Labour Council’s enactment.

In Sarab, East Azerbaijan Province, a number of students of the Faculty of Medical Sciences gathered at campus to protest against the deputy dean’s incompetency.

A group of citizens who have lost money by the car dealership Ramak Khodro’s failure to deliver their purchased cars held a protest before Tehran Courthouse.

For the second consecutive day, the overhaul technicians of the Tehran Oil Refinery Company staged a strike in protest against increasing compulsory working overtime.

A number of medical interns of The University of Medical Sciences of Shahrekord went on strike in protest against not receiving internship wages and Covid bonuses.

Continuing their protests, the pensioners of the Social Security Organization gathered before the Governor-General building in Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province.

The workers of the Iran Ofogh Industrial Development Company (and its two subsidiary companies) went on strike to protest against delays in payments. Reportedly, drivers and workers have not been paid for five and three months respectively.

The overhaul technicians of the Tehran Oil Refinery Company went on a strike in protest against increasing compulsory working overtime.

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization continued their protest in Ahvaz, Shushtar, Kermanshah, Rasht and Ardabil. They protested against the government’s decision to increase the pensions by only 10 per cent, which falls below the amount that the Supreme Labor Council has enacted.

A number of driving school instructors held a protest in Mashhad. They protested against low wages and increasing car maintenance costs.

A number of teachers working in overseas schools gathered in front of the Courthouse of Tehran to protest against not addressing their demands.

A group of students of Islamic Azad University in Kish gathered at campus to ask for holding in-person exams.

The insulation workers of petrochemical companies went on strike to demand an increase in wages.

A group of workers of the Tehran Darugar Company held a protest against a three-month delay in payments. According to these workers, the employer’s claim that the raw materials are in short supply is baseless and ingredients of shampoo and detergent are available on the market.

The workers and personnel of the Railway Services and Technical Construction Engineering Company Rezwan Dorud gathered and protested in a railway station in Zarand City, Yazd Province, to ask for levelling up wages.

A group of pensioners of the Social Security Organization gathered before the Governor’s office in Ahvaz to ask for their demands.

A number of workers of Azarpark Company gathered in front of this company office in Tabriz to protest against a three months delay in wages and the company’s decision not to raise the wages.

A number of residents of Zahedan gathered before the National Iranian Oil Company to protest against the revocation of their fuel ration cards.

The scaffold workers of the contractor company Salahshur working in the oil industry went on strike to ask for increasing wages and a shift work schedule with 20 days working followed by 10 days off.

 

HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Thursday, June 23, 2022, the scaffold workers of more than 22 companies went on strike and the medical personnel in Bojnurd held a protest.

Yesterday, scaffold workers of oil and petrochemical companies went on strike. Today, the scaffold workers of several other companies joined the strike. These workers demanded increasing wages and a shift work schedule with 20 days working followed by 10 days off.

Reportedly, in response, some employers have threatened them with termination. However, one of the petrochemical companies, Kian, promised to increase the wages.

On the same day of the presidential visit to North Khorasan Province, a number of nurses and medical personnel held a protest in front of the Governor-General building in Bojnurd to ask for their demands.
