Second Prisoner Executed in Adelabad Prison On July 11

On Sunday, July 11, 35-year-old Hossein Nemati, who had previously been sentenced to death for murder, was executed in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Iran Human Rights (IHR), Mr. Nemati had been kept in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz since 2017.

HRANA previously reported that Mohammad Hassan Taheri Haghighi, another prisoner, was executed on the same day in Adelabad Prison. Thus, the number of inmates executed in Adelabad prison increased by two on July 11.

On Sunday, July 4, two other prisoners were hanged in this prison. The report identifies one of the prisoners, Mr. Jahani, who had previously been sentenced to death for murder. The report does not mention his first name.

In recent days, a man who had previously been sentenced to death for murder was executed in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Hamshahri newspaper, the prisoner was sentenced to death by Branch 10 of the Criminal Court for a murder he committed in 2017. The sentence was upheld by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court.

Mohammad Hassan Taheri Haghighi Executed for Murder in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz

On Sunday, July 11, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death for murder was executed in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, the prisoner’s identity has been verified as “Mohammad Hassan Taheri Haghighi, son of Hassan, 33 years old, from Shiraz”.

Mr. Taheri Haghighi had been in Adelabad Prison in Shiraz since 2019.

Feizollah Ahmad Zadeh Executed in Qom Prison

On the morning of July 7, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges was executed in Qom Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Iran Human Rights (IHR), Feizollah Ahmad Zadeh was married and had a child.  The report quoted an informed source as saying that Ahmad Zadeh was arrested and sentenced to death about four years ago on drug-related charges.

On Monday, July 5, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death for murder was executed in Mashhad Prison. The execution took place after the sentence was upheld by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Khorasan newspaper, the prisoner has been identified as Mehdi-J.

70-Year-Old Man Executed in Mashhad Prison

On June 30, a 70-year-old prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death for the murder of his wife was executed in Mashhad Prison after 9 years.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Khorasan newspaper, court judges first sentenced the prisoner to death, and then the defendant appealed the verdict issued by the Third Branch of Criminal Court One.

The case was sent to Branch 37 of the Supreme Court for reconsideration, but the death sentence was upheld by the judges. After the verdict was finalized, the execution was carried out.

10 Months After his Execution, Supreme Court Overturns Khedr Ghavidel’s Death Sentence

Nearly 10 months after the execution of Khedr Ghavidel in Urmia Prison, his death sentence has been overturned by the Supreme Court.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Ghavidel was executed in September 2020 while his case was being processed by the Supreme Court.

A source close to the family of the executed prisoner told HRANA: “A few days ago, Ghavidel’s family was invited to the Urmia Prosecutor’s Office, and they were informed about this issue. The prosecutor told Ghavidel’s family that you could file a case and receive the ransom of the executed prisoner.”

In a similar situation, on Saturday, July 3, the death sentences of two prisoners, Nasser Azmoudeh and Shahriyar Amiri, were carried out in Urmia Prison in a situation where their case has not yet been heard by the Supreme Court.

The lack of a fair and transparent trial process in the Iranian judiciary, especially in cases that lead to irreversible sentences such as the death penalty, has long been criticized by human rights organizations.

Azim Karimzai Executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad

At dawn on June 25, a prisoner was executed in Vakilabad Prison in the city of Mashhad in Razavi Khorasan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting The Baloch Activists Campaign, Azim Karimzai, son of Mullah Sharif, had been previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

Mohammad Taher Soleimani Executed in Mahabad Prison

Yesterday, June 30, Mohammad Taher Soleimani was executed in Mahabad Prison in Kurdistan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, Soleimani had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

Mohammad Taher Soleimani was 65 years old and from Dizaj village in Margavar Rural District of Urmia County in West Azerbaijan Province.

Mr. Soleimani was transferred to solitary confinement on June 29, and his family was summoned to Mahabad Prison for their final visit.
