Prisoner Executed in Ilam Prison

HRANA News Agency – On Saturday, May 17, the death sentence of a prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out in Ilam Prison.

HRANA has identified the individual executed at dawn on Saturday, May 17, as Adnan Labakpour, a resident of Ilam.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Labakpour had been arrested on murder charges and later sentenced to death by a criminal court.

As of the time of this report, the execution has not been officially confirmed by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

In 2024, according to 812 reports compiled by HRANA, the Iranian regime executed 930 individuals in its prisons—marking the highest number of executions in the past 12 years. Despite the scale of these executions, prison officials and other relevant authorities publicly acknowledged only 6% of them, highlighting the regime’s lack of transparency and accountability.

Environmental Activist Arman Shadivand Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Arman Shadivand, an environmental activist, has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Ilam Revolutionary Court.

The verdict, issued in absentia on January 19 and recently communicated to him, includes eight months in prison for “propaganda against the regime” and 16 months for “insulting the Supreme Leader.” The charges are based on content he posted on his Instagram page. The ruling was handed down by Judge Dariush Piri of Branch 2 of the Ilam Revolutionary Court, located in Darreh Shahr, Ilam Province.

A source close to Shadivand’s family told HRANA: “After the Darreh Shahr Prosecutor’s Office issued the indictment, his case was split into two parts—one referred to the Revolutionary Court and the other to the Criminal Court. Ultimately, two separate summonses were issued, and he attended one of the hearings.”

Shadivand was initially summoned in November 2024 by Branch 2 of the Darreh Shahr Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office to defend himself against charges of acting against national security. He appeared before the court on November 24 and was subsequently arrested. He was released on bail a day later from a prison in Darreh Shahr.

In 2024, HRANA documented the arrest of 11 environmental activists, along with three summonses to security institutions, one house search, and one court trial.

Instagram Blogger Arrested in Ilam

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, Sirvan Parvizi, a satirical blogger from Ilam, was arrested by security forces and transferred to an undisclosed location. At the same time, his Instagram account was seized by judicial order, and a legal case was filed against him.

A source close to his family confirmed the arrest, stating that his Instagram page was seized for allegedly “publishing criminal content,” and judicial authorities have opened a case against him.

As of this report, no information is available about his whereabouts. Parvizi, known for publishing critical content, had over 500,000 followers on his Instagram account.

Sirvan Parvizi is a satirical blogger residing in Ilam. His arrest and the seizure of his online presence have raised concerns among his followers and activists.

Two Prisoners Executed in Ilam Prison

On October 1, 2024, two prisoners convicted of murder in separate cases were executed in Ilam Prison.

Kurdpa identified the prisoners as Nima Moradi and Nasrollah Mennati, both residents of Ilam.

Moradi was arrested two years ago, while Mennati had been detained earlier, each in separate cases related to murder charges. Both were sentenced to death by judicial authorities.

As of the time of this report, the executions had not been officially confirmed by prison officials or relevant authorities.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Somayeh Rostami Arrested by Security Forces in Ilam

Somayeh Rostami, a resident of Ilam, was arrested by security forces in the city and transferred to an undisclosed location, according to Kurdpa.

The identity of the individual has been reported as 21-year-old Somayeh Rostami, a resident of Ilam.

According to the report, this citizen was arrested by security forces on Monday, August 5th.

As of the time of this report, the reasons for Ms. Rostami’s arrest and her place of detention remain unknown.

Two Inmates Executed in Ilam Prison

On May 14, 2024, two inmates convicted of murder were executed in Ilam Prison, as reported by Kurdpa.

The executed inmates have been identified as Reza Gholamhosseini and Farrokh Khan-Mohammadi, both from Ilam County in Ilam Province. Gholamhosseini was arrested and accused of murder last year, while Khan-Mohammadi’s arrest and conviction date back to 14 years ago.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing.

In 2023, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered the execution of 767 individuals. Out of these, 7 were carried out in public. Among the executed individuals whose genders were identified, 21 were female. Additionally, 2 juvenile offenders, defined as individuals under the age of 18 at the time of their alleged crimes, were also executed. Mohammad Abbaszadeh Arrested by Security Forces in Ilam

On March 27, 2024, security forces detained Mohammad Abbaszadeh (Abbas-Zadeh) in Ilam following his participation in a Nowruz celebration gathering, as reported by Kurdpa. Abbaszadeh was then taken to an undisclosed location.

It’s worth noting that the agents conducted the arrest without presenting any formal warrant. Interestingly, just last month, Abbaszadeh had been summoned and subsequently released after signing a letter of commitment. This summons was reportedly linked to his vocal opposition to the parliamentary election.

In May 2023, the Criminal Court of Ilam sentenced Abbaszadeh to six months in prison and imposed a fine. Additionally, he was required to pen a short essay on the “divine punishment of blasphemy.”

Abbaszadeh’s activism has previously led to his arrest during the 2022 nationwide protests, commonly referred to as the Mahsa Amini protests. In that legal proceeding, he was fined and sentenced to 74 lashes, along with one year of suspended imprisonment.

Two Inmates Executed for Murder in Ilam Prison

Ilam prison executed two inmates on March 11, 2024, following separate murder convictions, as reported by Kurdpa.

The executed individuals are identified as Mansour Mansouri, 44 years old, and Moein Selah Varzi, a father of two. Selah Varzi was convicted of killing his brother 32 years ago.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing. The lack of official information raises concerns about transparency and accountability. In 2023, 66% of HRANA’s reports on executions lacked official announcements by judicial authorities and went unreported by media inside Iran, highlighting a troubling lack of transparency in due process.

Moreover, in 2023, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered the execution of  746 individuals. Out of these, 6 were carried out in public. Among the executed individuals whose genders were identified, 597 were male and 20 were female. Additionally, 2 juvenile offenders, defined as individuals under the age of 18 at the time of their alleged crimes, were also executed. Sasan Chaman-Ara Receives Three-Month Sentence and Fine for Political Charges

Ilam’s Revolutionary Court has issued a verdict sentencing Sasan Chaman-Ara to three months in prison, inclusive of the detention period, and a fine on political charges.

The court’s decision, notified to Chaman-Ara on March 9, states that Chaman-Ara is found guilty of “propaganda against the regime in favor of anti-regime groups and media.”

Chaman-Ara was taken into custody by security forces on January 17, 2024, and subsequently held in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in Ilam for seven days. He was released temporarily on bond after the initial detention period.

Aged 34 and a resident of Ilam, Chaman-Ara has a history of prior arrests and convictions related to his activism.

Sasan Chaman-Ara Detained in Ilam; Family Residences Searched

On January 17, 2024, security forces arrested Sasan Chaman-Ara in Ilam, transporting him to the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility in the city. Concurrently, his father’s and sister’s residences were subjected to searches by the agents.

Confirming the arrest, a source close to Chaman-Ara’s family informed HRANA that three agents from the Ministry of Intelligence detained him on a street in Ilam. Subsequently, they conducted comprehensive searches at his family members’ homes, seizing some belongings. Eventually, he was taken to the Ministry of Intelligence’s office.

“Since then, Chaman-Ara has been denied the opportunity to make a phone call to his family,” the source added.

Chaman-Ara’s initial arrest by security forces occurred in September-October 2022, and he was released on bail from Great Tehran Penitentiary in January 2023.

Following this, the Tehran Revolutionary Court issued a five-year prison sentence for “assembly and collusion against national security and propaganda against the regime,” a verdict upheld on appeal.
