Karun: Detention Orders Extended for 12 Citizens in the “Qaleh Chanaan” Case

HRANA – The detention orders of 12 citizens involved in the case known as “Qaleh Chanaan” have been extended. The individuals had previously attended an interrogation session at Branch 2 of the Karun Prosecutor’s Office, where they faced charges including moharebeh (enmity against God) and baghi (armed rebellion).

According to HRANA, the detention orders of 12 citizens involved in the “Qaleh Chanaan” case have been extended.

According to information received by HRANA, alongside the extension of their detention orders, a hearing in their case, originally scheduled for October 23, has been postponed for one month.

The 12 individuals, Tofigh Silavi, Mohammad Neisi, Hossein Silavi, Hamed Zohairi, Taregh Hosnian, Bahador Zargani, Mansour Naseri, Ahmad Bavi-Fard, Yousef Hosnian, Jassem Bavi, Mohammad Ali Bavi, and Hamid Hosnian, attended an interrogation session on October 12, 2026, at Branch 2 of the Karun Prosecutor’s Office, presided over by Judge Vadi-Nejad. The session was previously by HRANA.

During the session, the individuals faced charges including “disrupting public order and peace,” “moharebeh (enmity against God) through shooting at Basij bases,” “baghi (armed rebellion) through an armed uprising against the establishment,” and “assembly and collusion against national security.” The charges of moharebeh and baghi, both of which can carry the death penalty, have heightened families’ concerns about the possibility of death sentences being issued.

The detainees’ families were not permitted to attend the interrogation session or meet with their relatives. Since their arrests, these individuals have been denied access to independent legal counsel of their choosing.

The case was previously handled by Hossein Montazeri at Branch 2 of the Karun Prosecutor’s Office. Following his transfer, responsibility for the case was assigned to Judge Vadi-Nejad. According to information received by HRANA, the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security” was also recently added to the list of accusations in this case.

Previously, in April 2026, Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence issued a claiming that five people had been killed and 10 others arrested during an operation related to the case. However, the statement did not clearly disclose the identities of those killed.

Based on information received by HRANA, it was stated that Mahmoud Hasanian (Naseri) and Heydar Khayyatipour had been killed by direct gunfire from security forces and that their bodies had not been returned to their families. However, newly received information indicates uncertainty regarding the status of these individuals, and the relevant authorities have yet to provide a clear explanation.

The case stems from events on March 9, 2026, in the Qaleh Chanaan area of Ahvaz, when clashes erupted following the entry of Ministry of Intelligence forces into the area, resulting in several citizens being arrested, injured, or killed.
