HRANA-Over the past Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, four prisoners were executed on drug-related charges in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

On Thursday, August 28, the death sentence of a prisoner named Mehdi Raoufi was carried out. He had previously been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. On Saturday, two more prisoners were executed in this prison. HRANA has confirmed their identities as Ahmadali Mehripour and Hamid Kakavand.

Finally, on Sunday, Soleiman Koushki was executed. He, too, had previously been sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not been announced by prison officials or relevant authorities.

HRANA – At dawn on Thursday, August 28, the death sentence of a female prisoner previously convicted of murder was carried out in Abhar Prison.

HRANA has identified the prisoner who was hanged at dawn on Thursday, August 28, as Banoo Moghaddam, 60 years old. Based on information received by HRANA, Ms. Moghaddam had been arrested earlier on charges of murdering her son-in-law and later sentenced to death by the Criminal Court. She was also suffering from mental health issues at the time of her arrest.

Based on information received by HRANA, he had been arrested in 2021 on charges of murder and later sentenced to death by the Criminal Court. In 2020, during a burglary, he allegedly killed the homeowner.

HRANA has identified the prisoner as Hassan Safarian. Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Safarian had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, the execution of this prisoner has not been announced by prison officials or the responsible authorities.

According to HRANA’s statistics, in 2024, Adelabad Prison in Shiraz witnessed the execution of 92 inmates — an 88% increase compared to the previous year. This sharp rise places Adelabad as the second deadliest prison in Iran after Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

HRANA – At dawn on Sunday, August 17, the death sentences of two prisoners previously convicted on drug-related charges were carried out in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad.

HRANA has confirmed the identities of the prisoners executed at dawn on Sunday, August 17, as Javad Soheili and Nader Sepahdar. According to information received by HRANA, the two had been arrested on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

According to HRANA’s report, in 2024, over 52 percent of executed prisoners had been convicted on drug-related charges. Over the past ten years, individuals convicted of drug trafficking have accounted for 40 percent of all executions.
