Two Inmates Executed in Ilam and Isfahan

Wednesday, January 18, two inmates convicted of murder were executed in Ilam Prison and Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on January 18, 2023, Ghodrat Zibarm, age 30, was executed in Ilam Prison.

Zibarm was arrested and convicted of murder three years ago.
Iran Human Rights Organization also reported the execution of an inmate identified as Omid Karimi in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan, on the same day.
Karimi, reportedly, was sentenced to death for murder four years ago.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

In 2022, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered 457 reports related to the death penalty. Two Inmates Executed in Rasht and Gorgan

On January 11, 2023, an inmate convicted of murder was executed in Lakan Prison, Rasht. HRANA has identified the inmate as Milad Ashoob.

Also, another inmate, identified as Shahram Mortazavi, was executed in Gorgan Prison on the same day. An informed source close to his family told HRANA that he committed murder during a fight.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

Six Inmates Executed in Arak and Karaj

On January 11, 2023, five inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Arak Prison. Also, on the same day, the Central Prison of Karaj officials executed an inmate for “enmity against God (Moharebeh) through armed robbery.”

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on January 11, 2023, five inmates were executed in Arak Prison. HRANA has identified one of them as Ali Geravand. All five people were previously sentenced to death for drug offences.

Also, an inmate identified by HRANA as Reza Haji was executed in the Central Prison of Karaj. According to an informed source close to his family, he was sentenced to death for armed robbery.

Death Row Protestors Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Mohammad Hosseini Executed

On January 7, 2023, Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Mohammad Hosseini were executed. They were previously arrested at protests and sentenced to death in a legal case known as “the death of a Basij Militia force Ruhollah Ajamian.” A while ago, their sentences were confirmed by the Supreme Court of Iran.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Tasnim, on January 7, 2023, Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Mohammad Hosseini were executed.

Karami, age 22, a resident of Karaj, was a karateka with several top titles and championships. His lawyer recently informed HRANA that he went on a dry hunger strike last Wednesday.

Also, Mohammad Hosseini’s lawyer wrote on Twitter that his client had been tortured with iron bars and shockers.

Earlier, Mohsen Shekari and Majidreza Rahnavard were also executed over protests. According to data obtained by HRANA, at least 111 other protestors have been sentenced to death or have faced charges that can lead to a death sentence.
 

Two Inmates Executed in Ghezel-Hesar Prison

On January 5, 2023, two death-row inmates previously convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in Ghezel-Hesar Prison, Karaj.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, two inmates identified by HRANA as Mehdi Asgari and Rostam Abbaszadeh were executed in Ghezel-Hesar prison.

An informed source told HRANA that Abbaszadeh had been released after serving out his sentence for drug offences in 2006. However, when he was arrested for the second time, he received a life sentence after reviewing the first case and a death sentence for the second case.

18-Year-Old Mehdi Mohammadi-Fard Sentenced to Death over Protests

The Revolutionary Court of Sari sentenced Mehdi Mohammadi-Fard to death on the charges of “spreading corruption on earth” and “enmity against God (Moharebeh).” He was previously arrested at protests in Nowshahr.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Mehdi Mohammadi-Fard, age 18, was sentenced to death (two times for two counts).

Along with this death sentence, Mohammadi-Fard received six months for “propaganda against the regime,” two years for “inciting people to murder and disrupt national security,” and one year for “insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran.”

According to a report obtained by HRANA, Mohammadi-Fard has been denied the right to choose his lawyer. Also, an informed source told HRANA that all his confessions had been extracted under torture and ill-treatment.

Mohammadi-Fard was arrested at protests on September 30, 2022, in Nowshahr.

Two Inmates Executed in Rajai-Shahr Prison

On December 29, 2022, Rajai-Shahr Prison officials executed two inmates convicted of murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights Organization, on December 29, 2022, two co-defendants of a murder case, Hamidreza Nejati and Mohsen Nejati, were executed in Rajai-Shahr Prison.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

Four Inmates Executed in Karaj and Shiraz

On December 28, 2022, three inmates convicted of drug-related crimes were executed in the Central Prison of Karaj. Also, on the same day, an inmate previously convicted of murder was executed in Adel-Abad Prison, Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, three men, of which two have been identified by HRANA as Davood Yousefi and Ebrahim Ajalli, were executed in the Central Prison of Karaj.

Iran Human Rights Organization also reported the execution of an Afghan national Davood Rahmat-Ali in Adel-Abad Prison on the same day. Three years ago, Rahmat-Ali was arrested and sentenced to death for murder and carrying illegal weapons.

Three Inmates Executed in Adel-Abad Prison

On Thursday, December 22, 2022, Adel-Abad Prison officials executed three inmates convicted of rape.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting IRNA, on December 22, 2022, three inmates were executed in Adel-Abad Prison, Shiraz.

The Chief Justice of Fars Province stated that the executed prisoners were convicted of raping women in a park in Shiraz last year.

The report did not reveal these individuals’ identities.

 

Six Inmates Executed in Rajai-Shahr and Qazvin Prisons

Five inmates in Rajai-Shahr Prison and one in Qazvin Prison were executed.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on December 14, 2022, Rajai-Shahr Prison officials executed five inmates convicted of murder.

HRANA is working on identifying these individuals.

Also, Kurdpa reported the execution of an inmate identified as Yousef Mirza-Beigi in Qazvin Prison on December 15. He was previously convicted of murder.
