Mother of Killed Protester Sentenced to Eight Months in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Mina Soltani Zare, the mother of Shahriar Mohammadi, who was killed during the nationwide protests of 2022, has been sentenced by a Bukan court to eight months in prison and paying a fine.

Her son, Milad Mohammadi, announced in a statement that the verdict was verbally communicated to Soltani, sentencing her to eight months in prison and a paying a fine.

According to Kurdpa, the Bukan Criminal Court Branch 101 issued the sentence on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “appearing in public without mandatory hijab.”

Mina Soltani was arrested on August 27, 2024, by security forces in Bukan and was released on bail the following month.

Mina Soltani Zare is the mother of Shahriar Mohammadi, who was killed on November 18, 2022, during nationwide protests in Bukan after being shot.

Death Sentence and 25 Years in Prison for Three Detainees from the 2022 Protests

HRANA News Agency – Pejman Soltani, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, and Ali (Soran) Ghasemi, who were arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests in Bukan, have been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Urmia Criminal Court to execution, 15 years, and 10 years in prison, respectively, on charges of killing a security officer. Kaveh Salehi, the fourth defendant in this case, has been acquitted of the charges.

Based on the verdict recently issued by Branch 1 of the Urmia Criminal Court and officially communicated to the defendants in prison, Pejman Soltani has been sentenced to death for allegedly ordering the killing of a security officer, while Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri and Ali Ghasemi have been sentenced to 15 and 10 years in prison, respectively, for alleged participation in the killing. Kaveh Salehi, the fourth defendant in this case, has been acquitted of the charges.

The trial for these individuals was held on December 23, 2023, in the aforementioned court. These individuals were arrested in April-April 2023.

In addition to this case, these individuals, along with Javanmard Mam-Khosrawi, are facing another trial in the Urmia Revolutionary Court on charges such as moharebeh (waging war against God), baghi (armed rebellion), assembly and collusion against national security, financing terrorism, propaganda against the regime, espionage and collaboration with hostile states, possession of satellite internet equipment (Starlink), possession of unauthorized weapons, and membership in banned groups.

Among them, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri is currently on hunger strike in Urmia Prison in protest against the verdict and the prolonged uncertainty in his case.

Charges of “Baghi” and “Moharebeh” Filed Against Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, a Detainee from Nationwide Protests

Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, a political detainee and resident of Bukan, has been charged with “Baghi” (armed rebellion) and “Moharebeh” (enmity against God), charges that could lead to a death sentence. He was arrested by security forces on April 17, 2023, during the nationwide protests and is currently held in Urmia Prison.

Zhino Beigzadeh Babamiri, his daughter, told HRANA that her father was arrested in Bukan for providing aid to those injured during the 2022 nationwide protests. He was subjected to nearly four months of torture in detention centers in Bukan and Urmia to extract forced confessions before being transferred to Urmia Prison.

The indictment against him, issued by Branch 10 of the Urmia Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office, includes charges of ” Moharebeh,” “Baghi,” assembly and collusion against national security,” “financing terrorism,” “propaganda against the regime,” “espionage and collaboration with hostile governments,” “possession of satellite internet equipment (Starlink),” “possession of unauthorized weapons,” “membership in illegal groups,” and “ordering an assassination.” The case has been referred to Urmia’s Revolutionary and Criminal Courts.

According to Ms. Beigzadeh, her father’s case is connected to several other defendants, and on Monday, December 23, 2024, a court session was held at Urmia Criminal Court to address accusations that he ordered the killing of a security agent. She told HRANA that there is no evidence implicating her father in this crime.

Another part of his case is being reviewed by Branch 1 of the Urmia Revolutionary Court. In a letter to the head of this branch, Mr. Beigzadeh recently protested his treatment during the investigation, citing issues such as 133 days of interrogation, hearings conducted electronically, denial of his lawyer’s presence during trial sessions, and the court’s failure to address his complaints about torture during detention.

Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, a resident of Bukan, was a farmer before his arrest.

Two Citizens Arrested by Security Forces in Bukan

Today, December 24, 2024, Hemin Bahrami and Soran Arshad, residents of Bukan, were arrested by security forces in the city and transferred to an undisclosed location, according to Kurdpa

The individuals have been identified as Bahrami, 36, married and father of two, and Arshad, also married and father of two, both residents of the a village in Bukan county.

The report states that the arrests were carried out at their family homes by security forces without presenting a judicial warrant.

No information is currently available regarding the reasons for their detention, their whereabouts, or the charges against them.

Hazhar Soltani-Azar Sentenced to Six Months in Prison

Hazhar Soltani-Azar, a resident of Bukan, has been sentenced to six months in prison by the Revolutionary Court of this city.

According to HRANA, quoting Kolbar News, the Branch 104 of the Revolutionary Court in Bukan issued the sentence against Soltani-Azar on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

Previously, Soltani-Azar was arrested by security forces on October 6, 2023, and released on bail on October 13.

Suran Yousefi Arrested by Security Forces in Bukan

Suran Yousefi, a resident of Bukan, was arrested by security forces today, December 4, 2024, and transferred to an undisclosed location.

HRANA has identified the individual as Suran Yousefi, 36 years old, married, and the father of a young child, from the village of Salamat in the Bukan region.

A source close to Yousefi’s family confirmed the news, telling HRANA, “He was arrested at his home this morning by security forces without a warrant and taken to an unknown location. The lack of information about his whereabouts has caused concern among his family.”

As of the time of this report, no information is available regarding the reasons for his arrest or the charges against him.

Serveh Shiri and Peyman Shiri Sentenced to a Combined 14 Months in Prison

Serveh Shiri and Peyman Shiri, siblings and residents of Bukan, have been sentenced to a total of 14 months in prison by Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court of Bukan.

According to HRANA, citing Kurdpa, the court convicted the siblings on charges of “propaganda against the regime in favor of opposition groups.” Serveh Shiri received an eight-month sentence, while Peyman Shiri was sentenced to six months.

In September 2024, security forces arrested Serveh and Peyman Shiri in Bukan and transferred them to a security detention center in Urmia. After spending some time in custody, they were released on bail pending trial.

727 Days of Silence: The Ongoing Detention of Osman Mameh

Osman Mameh, a 55-year-old resident of Bukan, has been held in detention for 727 days without any clear explanation from authorities. The prolonged lack of communication about his condition has left his family and relatives deeply concerned.

A source close to Mameh’s family told HRANA: “Despite nearly two years since his arrest and continuous efforts by his family to seek answers from security and judicial authorities in cities such as Bukan, Urmia, Karaj, and Tehran, no clear information has been provided. Mr. Mameh has not been allowed any contact with his family since his detention, which has only intensified their fears. Security officials have merely stated that he is alive and that the family would have been informed if he had died.”

Mameh was arrested by security forces on November 18, 2022, in Bukan.

As of this report, no details have been disclosed about the reasons for his arrest, the location of his detention, or the charges brought against him.

Solmaz Hassanzadeh Sentenced to One Year in Prison

Solmaz Hassanzadeh, sister of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, who was killed by regime forces during the 2022 nationwide protests, has been sentenced to one year in prison by judicial authorities.

According to Kurdpa, the one-year sentence was issued by Branch 101 of Criminal Court Two in Bukan, presided over by Judge Mehdi Fakhri, on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

Though cases of this nature typically fall under the jurisdiction of the Revolutionary Court, the lack of such a court in Bukan means security-related cases are first referred to the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad. Once a decision is reached, the case is returned to Bukan’s Criminal Court for sentencing.

On July 30, Solmaz and her father were arrested by security forces while attempting to hold a memorial ceremony for Mohammad’s birthday. The next day, her father, Ahmad Hassanzadeh, was released on a bail of four billion tomans, while Solmaz was released on August 13 after posting a bail of 500 million tomans.

Solmaz Hassanzadeh had previously been detained by security forces at a checkpoint between Bukan and Saqqez on September 27 of last year, and was subsequently released.

Mohammad Hassanzadeh, a 28-year-old Bukan resident, was fatally shot during the 2022 protests and passed away on November 16 of that year.

Zahra Sajedinia Sentenced to Prison

Zahra Sajedinia, a resident of Bukan, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Criminal Court of this city, according to Kolbar News.

Based on a ruling issued by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court Two of Bukan and delivered to Ms. Sajedinia on September 29, she was sentenced to 10 months in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

Sajedinia was arrested by security forces on July 31 of this year. She was later released from Urmia prison on bail after completing her interrogation.

Zahra Sajedinia, 38 years old, is married, a mother of three, and a resident of Bukan.
