Minor Arrested by Security Forces in Oshnavieh

Fourteen-year-old Mohsen Shabooie was apprehended by security forces in Oshnavieh, as reported by Kurdpa.

The agents carried out the arrest without presenting an arrest warrant, raising concerns about procedural irregularities.

The grounds for Mohsen Shabooie’s arrest and the specific allegations against him remain undisclosed at this time.

This incident adds to the alarming statistics of violations of children’s rights in Iran. According to the Department of Statistics of Human Rights Activists in Iran, 434 reports of children’s rights violations were recorded in 2022. Furthermore, during the nationwide protests of the same year, at least 167 minors were subjected to arrests, highlighting the vulnerability of young individuals caught in such situations.

Babak Karimi Receives Nine-Year Prison Sentence

Babak Karimi, a resident of Eyvan Gharb, has been sentenced to nine years in prison by the Ilam Revolutionary Court, as reported by Kurdpa. Karimi was apprehended during the nationwide protests of 2022.

According to the verdict, Karimi has been given five years for charges of “assembly and collusion against national security,” two years for “insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran,” and two years for “insulting the former Supreme Leader of Iran.”

If the verdict is upheld on appeal, the five-year sentence for the first charge will be enforced. Karimi was arrested by security forces on September 21, 2022, in Eyvan Gharb, Ilam province. He was released on February 6, 2023, after posting a two-billion-toman bail from Ilam Prison.

Two Inmates Executed in Sanandaj and Birjand Prisons

On February 20 and 21, two inmates convicted of murder and drug-related crimes were executed in Sanandaj and Birjand Prisons, respectively.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on February 20, 2023, Moslem Moradi, a resident of Divandarreh, was executed in Sanandaj Prison. He was previously convicted of murder.

Moreover, Haal Vsh reported that on February 21, Birjand Prison officials executed an inmate identified as Davood Rakjan (aka Haj Nabi Kharkoohi), age 44, a resident of Zahedan.
He was reportedly sentenced to death in 2010 for carrying and keeping drugs.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

In 2022, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered 457 reports related to the death penalty. This included 92 death sentences, including the conviction of 6 people to public execution and 565 execution sentences were carried out, 2 of which have been carried out in public. Based on the announced identifications of some of the executed individuals, 501 were male and 11 were female. In addition, 5 juvenile offenders were executed in 2022, meaning they were under the age of 18 at the time they committed the crime.

 

 

Iran Protests: Siamak Davoodi Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

The Sanandaj Revolutionary Court sentenced Siamak Davoodi to three years in prison. He was arrested at his workplace amid nationwide protests.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, Siamak Davoodi was sentenced to three years in prison for “assembly and collusion against national security.”

On October 27, 2022, security forces arrested Davoodi at his workplace in Sanandaj and took him to a detention facility at the disposal of the Ministry of Intelligence. He was released on bail on January 21, 2023.

Since the beginning of nationwide protests, over 19620 people, including journalists, artists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. So far, over protests, at least 777 people have been sentenced to a total of about 14063 months imprisonment.

 

Two Inmates Executed in Salmas

On January 19, Salmas Prison officials executed two death-row inmates convicted of drug-related crimes and murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on January 20, 2023, Kamel Dudkanlo and Seyed Farhad Hosseini Tamrabad were executed in Salmas Prison, West Azerbaijan Province.

A few years ago, Dudkanlo was sentenced to death for drug offences. Hosseini Tamrabad was convicted of murder.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

Five Individuals Arrested in Mahabad

On August 16, 2022, security forces arrested five individuals in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, and transferred them to an unidentified location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on August 16, 2022, security forces arrested Amir Bayazidi Azar, Shahram Bayazidi Azar, Kambiz Bayazidi Azar, Chia Pirzad and Jalal Mahmoudi.

All these individuals are residents of the village Geok Tepe located in Mahabad County.

At the time of arrest, the agents searched their house and arrested them without showing any arrest and search warrant.

Last year, Amir Bayazidi Azar was arrested and sentenced to three months in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.” He was released from jail on January 1, 2022, after serving out his sentence.  

Michael Menbari Arrested in Sanandaj

On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, security forces arrested Michael Menbari in Sanandaj and took him to an unidentified location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, Michael Menbari was arrested by security forces in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province.

According to an informed source, “Menbari was arrested by intelligence agents at a shop. The agents did not show an arrest warrant.”

The reason for Menbari’s arrest, his whereabouts and the charges against him are unknown so far.

Earlier on June 15, 2022, Menbari was arrested and jailed in Sanandaj Prison. At the time of his arrest, the intelligence agents searched his house and confiscated some of his personal belongings. On October 2, 2021, he was released on bail.  

Man Shot Dead by Regime’s Military Forces in Border Area of Urmia County

Earlier this Tuesday, November 2, a man was shot dead by military forces in border areas of Urmia county.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, the victim has been identified as Veisi Badini, a resident of the village Soorkan. Badini was married and has two children.

Military forces reportedly began to shoot directly towards Veisi Badini, who was pasturing livestock, without any warning beforehand. In the aftermath of their shooting, the forces did not allow any medical treatment, which led to his death from bleeding. As of yet, they have refused to deliver the body to Badini’s family.

HRANA’s annual human rights report has specifically documented cases in which military forces’ use of live ammunition against citizens has led to their injury or death.

According to the 2020 report, 36 cross-border laborers (kolbars), 5 cross-border fuel carriers (sukhtbar) and 33 other citizens have been shot dead by military forces and border guards in the last year. In addition, 130 people have been injured of which 109 are kolbars, 5 are sukhtbars, and 16 are citizens.

Golaleh Moradi Still in Detention After Six Months

After six months, Piranshahr resident Golaleh Moradi is still in detention in Urmia Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, no court session has been held as of yet. Moradi has has been denied conditional bail as well as access to a lawyer throughout her detention.

On April 17 of this year, Golaleh Moradi was arrested along with her two children and transferred to a detention center in Urmia City. Her children were released after completing the interrogation process, but Moradi was then relocated from the IRGC detention facility to Urmia Prison in June.

“She has been under pressure for confession,” an informed source stated.

 

 

Kolbar Jian Ali-Pour Shot Dead by Regime Military Forces at Border Areas of Sardasht County

On Thursday, October 14, a kolbar was killed by the direct shooting of military forces in border areas near Sardasht.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on Thursday, the man has been identified as Jian Ali-Pour, a resident of a village in County Sardasht. He was married with two children. According to this report, the military forces shot him dead without any warning beforehand.

Many poor people living in border areas turn to this illegal work and carry loads on foot through borders to make ends meet. Yearly, dozens of kolbars are injured and killed from accidents, dangerous conditions, and border guard shootings.

HRANA’s annual human rights report has specifically documented cases in which military forces’ use of live ammunition against citizens has led to their injury or death.

According to the 2020 report, other than material damages like loss of pack animals due to road accidents, frost, or avalanche, 36 cross-border laborers (kolbars) have been shot dead, and 109 have been injured by military forces and border guards.
