HRANA – Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that two Lithuanian citizens have been arrested in Iran. The ministry has declined to disclose their identities or provide details about their arrests.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had received official information from Iranian authorities confirming the detention of two Lithuanian nationals. Responding to media inquiries, the ministry emphasized that, out of respect for the individuals’ privacy and without their consent, it could not disclose their identities or provide information about the circumstances and details of their arrests.
The announcement comes after Lithuanian police previously reported that two Lithuanian women, Daiva Zakažauskaitė and Erika Šlimaitė, had gone missing while traveling in Iran. However, Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not identified the detained citizens by name.
The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry also stated: “We continue to make every effort to ensure that the detained individuals receive the necessary consular assistance.”
So far, no information has been released regarding the reasons for their arrests, any potential charges against them, or their place of detention.
Lithuanian police had previously reported that Daiva Zakažauskaitė and Erika Šlimaitė traveled from Lithuania to Turkey on October 7 before continuing to Iran. According to police, their families have been unable to contact them since October 11.
