Farzad Abdi Arrested by Security Forces in Dehloran County

HRANA News Agency – Yesterday, Farzad Abdi, a resident of Dehloran County, was arrested by security forces and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, citing Kurdpa, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Farzad Abdi was arrested in Dehloran County located in Ilam province. Security forces reportedly arrested this resident of the city of Pahle in Dehloran without presenting a judicial warrant and used physical violence during the arrest.

A source familiar with the situation stated that Mr. Abdi’s arrest took place following a Nowruz celebration held in the city of Pahle.

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding his whereabouts or the charges brought against him.

On the First Day of Iranian New Year, Several Citizens Arrested at Historical Sites

HRANA News Agency – The head of the Public Security Police of FARAJA announced that several citizens were arrested at various historical sites across the country on the first day of the Iranian New Year (1404). He claimed that these individuals were attempting to disrupt public order through “norm-breaking” behavior.

According to HRANA, quoting Mehr News Agency, a number of citizens were detained at cultural and historical locations across Iran on the first day of the new year.

The police official referred to the detainees as “leaders” and “main instigators,” accusing them of engaging in acts of “norm violation.” Seyed Majid Feyz Jafari, without providing any specific examples of the alleged misconduct, asserted that the detainees intended to disturb public security.

The report does not mention the identities or the number of those arrested. There is also no information available regarding their legal status or current conditions of detention.

In recent years, during the Nowruz holidays, as public presence in cultural and historical sites increases, numerous incidents have been reported involving authorities confronting citizens over issues such as dress code, dancing, or public celebration. In some cases, detainees were later released on bail but faced charges such as “propaganda against the regime” or “encouraging corruption and prostitution.”

IRGC Detains Two Individuals in Miandoab After Nowruz Celebration

According to Kurdpa, on April 17, 2024, Mohsen Ghader-Rash and Omid Ghader-Nejad were arrested after being summoned to the IRGC Intelligence office in Miandoab and subsequently transferred to the city’s prison.

Ghader-Rash, 30, and Ghader-Nejad, 28, were allegedly summoned and detained for participating in the Nowruz celebration gathering.

Mohammad Abbaszadeh Arrested by Security Forces in Ilam

On March 27, 2024, security forces detained Mohammad Abbaszadeh (Abbas-Zadeh) in Ilam following his participation in a Nowruz celebration gathering, as reported by Kurdpa. Abbaszadeh was then taken to an undisclosed location.

It’s worth noting that the agents conducted the arrest without presenting any formal warrant. Interestingly, just last month, Abbaszadeh had been summoned and subsequently released after signing a letter of commitment. This summons was reportedly linked to his vocal opposition to the parliamentary election.

In May 2023, the Criminal Court of Ilam sentenced Abbaszadeh to six months in prison and imposed a fine. Additionally, he was required to pen a short essay on the “divine punishment of blasphemy.”

Abbaszadeh’s activism has previously led to his arrest during the 2022 nationwide protests, commonly referred to as the Mahsa Amini protests. In that legal proceeding, he was fined and sentenced to 74 lashes, along with one year of suspended imprisonment.

Seven citizens Summoned and Interrogated for Celebrating Nowruz

On Wednesday, March 30, in Oshnavieh, seven citizens were summoned via phone and interrogated by the Ministry of intelligence.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on Wednesday, March 30, seven citizens identified as Reza Elsmadoost, Omid Eslamdoost, Saman Rasulzadeh, Sanaan Rasulzadeh, Diako Mohammad-gevari, Hadi Hasanzadeh, Ashkan Sakkak were summoned and interrogated by the Ministry of Intelligence in Oshnavieh. All these individuals are residents of Nalous city located in Oshnavieh County.

Reportedly, these citizens have been interrogated for participating in a gathering for the celebration of Nowruz. After a few hours of interrogation, they were released after signing a commitment letter.

Two Citizens Arrested in Piranshahr City

On Tuesday, March 22, 2022, in Piranshahr city, security forces arrested two citizens and transferred them to an unidentified location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, two citizens identified as Ahmad Rasooli and Sasan Padash were arrested by security forces in Piranshahr.

According to an informed source, these citizens were arrested due to participation in Nowruz celebration in the village Qalateh Rash located in Piranshahr.

The whereabouts of these arrestees are still unknown.

Twelve Citizens Arrested for Attending a Nowruz Celebration at Kurdistan Province 

On Monday, March 21, 2022, in Sanandaj city, the security forces raided a gathering and arrested twelve citizens. The gathering was held to celebrate Nowruz, the spring celebration and the Iranian New Year. 

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Monday, March 21, 2022, twelve citizens were arrested by security forces during a gathering for the celebration of Nowruz.

The arrestees have been identified as Sohrab Jalali, Jamal Asadi, Foad Enayati, Abed Khorshidi, Keyvan Zand-Karimi, Sahand Barzanji, Arash Shkeiba, Khaled Hosseini, Jamshid Farzi, Fardin Peymnankar, Keyhan Kakeh-Khani and Keyvan Mahmoodi. 

 It is still unknown where these arrestees have been detained.

Earlier, in October of 2019, Foad Enayati was arrested during a protest along with two other citizens, Faramarz Shariati and Mobin Khosravi. They were released on bail of 300 million tomans after the interrogation.

Subsequently, Branch 104 of the Criminal Court of Sanandaj, headed by Judge Omidi, sentenced Foad Enayati to 10 months imprisonment and 74 lashes. This prison sentence was changed to two years suspended prison on appeal. On July 27, 2020, the flagellation was carried out.

On March 7, 2021, Jamal Asadi had been summoned and interrogated by the Public Security and Intelligence Police of Sanandaj.

Two Citizens Arrested in Mariwan and Piranshahr

Last Saturday, March 19, 2022, security forces arrested two citizens in Mariwan and Piranshahr cities.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa News Agency, last Saturday, March 19, 2022, one citizen identified as Bahman Chashteh, age 48, was arrested by security forces in Piranshahr city of West Azerbaijan Province.

Reportedly, they arrested Mr Chashteh without presenting an arrest warrant.

On the same day, IRGC’s Intelligence Organization summoned a citizen identified as Borhan Derakhshani and arrested him upon appearance. Mr. Derakhshanie had been summoned on another occasion and interrogated three times. He is a resident of Nay village located in Mariwan County.

The reason for these arrests and the charges are still unknown. An informed source, however, in the report stated that they arrested Mr Derakhshani in an effort to prevent the gathering to celebrate Nowruz in Nay village.
