At Least 43 Citizens Arrested in Various Cities

HRANA – Domestic official media have reported the arrest of one citizen in Qazvin, two in Astara, and 40 others in Tehran. The reasons given for these arrests include “affiliation with the Israeli government,” “links to opposition groups,” and “sending the locations of security forces to foreign media outlets.”

According to Tasnim News Agency, the public relations office of IRGC in Qazvin Province claimed that this individual was “a spy affiliated with the Israeli government” who was identified and arrested “before carrying out sabotage on one of the province’s critical infrastructures.”

Mehr News Agency also reported the arrest of two citizens, aged 37 and 40, in Astara County. Morteza Ahadi, the county’s police commander, claimed that the two were arrested for “cooperating with opposition groups.” He further alleged that they had been active in “disturbing public opinion and acting in alignment with opposition groups aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic.”

Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported that 39 citizens were arrested in Tehran. According to the report, the Ministry of Intelligence claimed that 27 of these individuals had “intended to form an operational cell to create insecurity in Sistan and Baluchestan Province” and were identified and arrested.

The Ministry of Intelligence also claimed that 10 of these citizens were arrested for “cooperating with foreign media and reporting the locations of security forces to Iran International,” while two others were arrested for “creating psychological insecurity in society through cyberspace.” The ministry further stated that firearms, ammunition, and seven Starlink devices were discovered and confiscated from these individuals.

According to Mehr, the public relations office of the Seyyed al-Shohada IRGC in Tehran Province announced in a statement that an individual who had filmed and sent footage of an attack on Namaz Square in Shahr-e Rey to Iran International was identified and arrested in coordination with judicial authorities.

The report does not provide further details, including the identities of those arrested or the time and place of their detention.

261 People Arrested for Allegedly Holding Satanism Ritual

Tasnim, a security-affiliated news agency, reported that police apprehended 146 men and 115 women for allegedly holding a Satanist ritual and consuming alcohol.

According to the Police Intelligence Organization, three of the detainees are European nationals. The police claimed that the detainees had Satanic symbols on their shirts, hair, and faces. Additionally, 73 vehicles were seized.

The report did not disclose the identities of the detainees or their current location.

Iran’s regime and judiciary have consistently faced criticism for infringing on citizens’ privacy rights and personal affairs.

Multiple Individuals Detained in Zahedan by Security Forces

As reported by Tasnim, a news agency affiliated with security institutions, several individuals in Zahedan have been apprehended by security forces on allegations of supporting “anti-regime groups.” Additionally, news channels associated with security institutions have released a video featuring the confessions of two of these detainees.

The arrests are said to be linked to an incident in which these individuals raised an Iran flag bearing the Lion and Sun emblem in a public space, signifying their support for monarchist opposition.
The report indicates that the detainees were part of a four-member team. However, the identities of the individuals and the specific location of their detention remain undisclosed.

The Iranian regime consistently employs the tactic of airing forced confessions from detainees as a means of advancing its propaganda and instilling fear. These confessions, obtained under conditions of duress and through mistreatment, have garnered strong condemnation from international human rights organizations and are unequivocally regarded as grave violations of fundamental human rights.

Poisoned Student’s Mother Beaten; Four Men Responsible for Attack Arrested

A video circulated on social media shows the mother of one of the poisoned school students was beaten during parents’ protest against the poisoning attacks in Tehran. According to Tasnim news, in this regard, four people were arrested.

Following the serial poisoning with an unknown toxic gas in several schools across Iran, the students of the School “13 Aban” was attacked by poisoning. Worried parents gathered before the school. During the protest, a man, apparently, a plainclothes intelligence agent, violently beat a woman.

This video has stirred up many people’s anger on social media.

In response, Iran’s Law Enforcement Command spokesperson claimed that the attacker was not a police agent.

“Immediately after being informed about this incident, a team of police officers was sent to the spot. Their investigation shows that the police was not involved directly or indirectly,” he stated.

German National Arrested in Khuzestan

IRGC-affiliated news agency Tasnim reported the arrest of an unidentified German national due to photographing the oil facilities in Omidiyeh.

The report did not reveal the detainee’s identity and the allegations against him.

According to Article 503 of the Islamic Penal Code, taking photos of forbidden places can be punishable by a prison term from six months to three years.

Iran Protests: Elham Afkari Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

The Shiraz Revolutionary Court recently sentenced Elham Afkari to five years in prison and barred her from leaving the country and social activities on the Internet for two years. She was previously arrested during recent protests by security forces in Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, IRGC-affiliated news agency Tasnim reported that Elham Afkari was sentenced to five years in prison.

Tasnim’s report mentioned the charges as “intention to cause unrest and disruption via spreading the calls for protests on the Internet.” An informed source, however, told HRANA that Afkari and her lawyer have not yet been notified about the issuance of this sentence.

On November 10, 2022, Afkari was arrested in Shiraz. In protest against her arrest, she went on a hunger strike. She is currently jailed in Adel-Abad Prison.

Elham Afkari’s brother, Navid Afkari is a famous wrestler who was executed on September 12, 2020.

Four Political Prisoners Coerced to Make TV Confession

Recently, Iran’s state TV broadcasted coerced confessions of four political prisoners Mohsen Mazloum, Pejman Fatehi, Vafa Azarbar and Hajir Faramarzi. On July 23, 2022, these individuals were arrested in Urmia County. After three months of detention, their lawyer is still denied access to the clients and legal case documents.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Iran’s state TV broadcasted a forced confession video of four political detainees, raising concerns about their conditions and subsequent severe punishments.

After 136 days of detention, these individuals’ families are not informed about their whereabouts and the charges. They have also been denied any access to their lawyer.

On July 23, 2022, security-institution-affiliated news agency Tasnim reported the arrest of “a network of Israeli spies” referring to these individuals. Tasnim also claimed that “having operational and communication equipment and explosive materials, they crossed into the country from the Kurdistan region to carry out unprecedented terrorist operations in some secure-sensitive locations.”

In response, Komalah (CPI-a Kurdish oppositional political party) issued a statement denying all these allegations and warned about intelligence institutions’ conspiring against detainees.

One of the detainees’ wife told HRANA: “Since the arrest, we have been worrying about torturing them to extract confessions. As of yet, we do not even know if they are alive or dead.”

 

 

Abbas Akhoundi Sentenced to 60 Lashes and 3 Months Imprisonment

The Tehran Court of Appeals sentenced Abbas Akhoondi, former Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, to 60 lashes and three months suspended imprisonment.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Tasnim news agency, Branch 78 of the Tehran Court of Appeals charged Akhoondi with “publishing lies”. The sentence was issued following the complaints from Seyed Mehdi Hashemi against the former Minister.

Iran is one of the few countries that has continued to use humiliating punishments despite the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights’ explicit prohibition of the use of inhumane and degrading punishments, including the death penalty and flogging.
