Citizen Executed in Esfarayen City on Charge of Murder

The death sentence of a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death for murder was recently carried out in Esfarayen City.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, the prisoner had been sentenced to flogging and imprisonment in addition to the death sentence.

Regarding this case, Nader Nejad Aghdash, the Public Prosecutor of Esfarayen said, “After receiving the news of the disappearance of a 31-year-old woman in March 2018, a judicial case was filed and after a few days, the accused in this case was identified and arrested. The defendant confessed to the crime after his arrest”

Nejad Aghdash added, “Based on the available evidence, the most likely motive behind murder was the theft of the victim’s gold and jewelry. More so, after committing the crime, the accused mutilated and burned the body in order to get rid of the evidence.”

“After completing the various stages of the trial,” Nejad Aghdash added, “according to the lawsuit issued by the First Branch of the Criminal Court of North Khorasan Province, the accused was sentenced to death. He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison and 74 lashes for aggravated robbery, and 74 lashes for cutting off both legs and burning a corpse. ”

The initial verdict was upheld in Branch 13 of the Supreme Court and the death sentence was carried out.

At Least one Prisoner Transferred to Solitary Confinement in Urmia Prison for Execution Preparation

This morning, Wednesday, August 4, at least one prisoner sentenced to death was transferred to solitary confinement in Urmia Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, the prisoner was previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

The identity of this prisoner has been verified by HRANA as Ebrahim Nasrikhah.

A defendant named Jalil was sentenced to death by the Second Branch of the Criminal Court of Tehran Province for murder. Another defendant, Kamran, was sentenced to death by the Eighth Branch of the Criminal Court of Tehran Province for murder.

Two death sentences were recently issued to male defendants in Tehran.

Another defendant was sentenced to death by a criminal court in Tehran province for the murder of his aunt.

Death Sentences Issued to Defendant in Mashhad

A defendant was sentenced to two death sentences by the Fifth Branch of the Criminal Court of Khorasan Razavi Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Khorasan newspaper, the defendant was sentenced on a charge of double homicide.

According to this report, the convicted is a 45-year-old man named Mahdi who, with the help of his friends, killed two people with a firearm.

The Court of Khorasan Razavi sentenced the other defendants to imprisonment and deportation on charges such as assisting in murder and carrying and keeping weapons.

The verdicts issued by the court can still be appealed in the Supreme Court.

Prisoner Executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj

In recent days, a man who had previously been sentenced to death for murder was executed in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.

Idris Gergij and Hashem Torabi Executed in Zahedan Prison

Idris Gergij and Hashem Torabi, two inmates who were previously sentenced to death for murder, were executed last week at Zahedan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Idris Gergij, who had previously been sentenced to death under the “Qisas” (an eye for an eye) principle of Islamic sharia law, was executed on Monday, July 5. On June 26, 33-year-old Hashem Torabi was executed after having been held in Zahedan Prison for about 7 years.

Hossein Kheiri Sentenced to Death for “Moharebeh”

Babak Paknia, the lawyer of political prisoner Hossein Kheiri, announced the issuance of the death sentence to his client on charges of Moharebeh by destroying property with the intention to oppose the regime.

Moharebeh, loosely translated as “waging war against God”, is a pillar of Sharia Law that is typically applied to those suspected of connection to any acts against the state.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Emtedad news, Paknia has stated, “Our strong evidence shows that the charge of moharebeh does not fit the actions taken by my client.”

He explained that an indictment was issued by the Evin Security Court against eight people, of whom four were accused of moharebeh and the rest were prosecuted on charges of collusion against national security and the like.

“We defended and the court accepted that out of the four, three could not be punished under the guise of moharebeh, but the actions of Hossein Kheiri were recognized as moharebeh and a death sentence was issued for him,” Paknia said. “We will submit our bill of appeal in two weeks to be reconsidered in the Supreme Court.”

Mohammad Taher Soleimani Executed in Mahabad Prison

Yesterday, June 30, Mohammad Taher Soleimani was executed in Mahabad Prison in Kurdistan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, Soleimani had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

Mohammad Taher Soleimani was 65 years old and from Dizaj village in Margavar Rural District of Urmia County in West Azerbaijan Province.

Mr. Soleimani was transferred to solitary confinement on June 29, and his family was summoned to Mahabad Prison for their final visit.
