Hamid Haj Jafar Kashani Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

HRANA – Hamid Haj Jafar Kashani, a political prisoner currently held in Greater Tehran Prison, has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Based on a verdict issued by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court and communicated to him on April 28, 2026, he was sentenced to five years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security,” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, only the most severe punishment, five years in prison, will be enforceable.

Mr. Haj Jafar Kashani was arrested on January 4, 2026, during nationwide protests in Tehran. He is currently being held in Ward 6, Unit 1 of Greater Tehran Prison. He has previously faced arrest and judicial action due to his activities.

Report on the Arrest of Nine Citizens in Connection with the January Protests

HRANA – In connection with the nationwide protests, nine individuals were arrested by security forces in the cities of Ilam, Kermanshah, Sanandaj, Tehran, and Kerman.

Based on information received by HRANA, Amir Mohammad Sarhadi, Pouria Mirzaei, Mohammad Mohammadian, and Ali Gilani were arrested during the nationwide protests in Kerman by Intelligence Organization of the IRGC agents in this city.

In this regard, on January 14, 2026, Mehr News Agency published a video of the forced confessions of these citizens under the title “Agents Behind the Arson of the Kosar Square Procession.” In this video, which it is unclear under what conditions it was recorded, the citizens express remorse.

A source close to the families of these citizens, while confirming the news, told HRANA: “So far, no information has been obtained about their place of detention. The lack of information about the fate of these citizens has increased the concerns of their families and relatives.”

Additionally, Fariborz Sadeghi, a resident of Ilam, was also arrested by security forces in this city in late January 2026. So far, no information has been obtained about his place of detention.

On the other hand, Hamid Haj Jafar Kashani and Ahmadreza Bakhtar were arrested by security forces in Tehran and are currently being held in Greater Tehran Prison.

According to available information, Bakhtar, 18 years old, from Shirvan in Ilam Province, and Haj Jafar Kashani were arrested by security forces in Tehran during the early days of the protests.

Kurdpa News Agency also reported the arrest of two citizens in Sanandaj and Kermanshah.

The identities of these citizens were reported as Mehdi Ghaderi, 32 years old, son of Ali, married, father of two children, and a resident of Sanandaj; and Moslem Seydi, 39 years old, from and residing in Kermanshah.

According to this report, Mr. Ghaderi was arrested on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, by security forces in Sanandaj, and Mr. Seydi was arrested on January 9, 2026, inside a doctor’s office on Kashani Street in Kermanshah. Since their arrest, no information has been obtained regarding their place of detention.

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding the charges brought against these citizens.

It should be noted that gatherings and strikes by shopkeepers and bazaar merchants began in Tehran on Sunday, December 28, 2025. After two days, they spread beyond bazaars and commercial centers. Hamid Haj Jafar Kashani Arrested in Tehran

HRANA News Agency – Yesterday, Sunday, April 27, Hamid Haj Jafar Kashani, a civil rights activist, was arrested by police forces after chanting protest slogans on Enghelab Street in Tehran. Authorities transferred him to an unknown location.

Police officers arrested Mr. Kashani after he chanted slogans critical of the government on Enghelab Street.
As of the time of this report, his whereabouts remain unknown.

Hamid Haj Jafar Kashani has previously faced arrest and judicial action due to his activism.

Civil Rights Activist Hamid Haj-Jafar Kashani Arrested

On January 16, 2023, civil rights activist and futsal referee Hamid Haj-Jafar Kashani was arrested when he went to Evin Courthouse to inquire about a relative’s legal case. Currently serving his sentence in Rajai-Shahr prison, Haj-Jafar Kashani was spending his medical furlough before his arrest at Evin.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on January 16, 2023, civil rights activist Haj-Jafar Kashani was arrested.

An informed source told HRANA, “Kashani accompanied Fariba Fereidooni who was summoned to Evin Courthouse. Security forces apprehended him violently and took him inside the courthouse. After a few hours, they handcuffed him and took him to Evin Prison.”
According to this source, Kashani was on medical furlough to undergo surgery for his lumbar disc.

In the fall of 2020, security forces arrested Kashani and jailed him in Evin Prison. Subsequently, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to three years and six months in prison for “assembly and collusion against national security” and six months for “propaganda against the regime.” He was also sentenced to additional punishment.

In August of this year, he faced new charges following the complaint of the head of the Tehran Prisons and Security and Corrective Measures Organization.
