Civil Rights Activist Baran Saedi Arrested in Sanandaj

HRANA News Agency – Today, Monday, March 10, Baran Saedi, a resident of Sanandaj, was arrested by security forces in the city and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, quoting Kurdpa, Saedi’s arrest took place at her home by security forces without a judicial warrant. The report further mentions that the civil rights activist was detained following her participation in an event commemorating International Women’s Day in Sanandaj.

Baran Saedi had previously been arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 and was released on bail after about two months.

As of the time of this report, there is no information on her whereabouts or the charges against her.

Report on the Arrest of Three Citizens in Qasreqand County

HRANA News Agency – On Saturday, March 8, security forces arrested three citizens, Alam Azizi, Saeed Azizi, and Javid Kadkhodaei, in Qasreqand County. Among them, Saeed Azizi and Javid Kadkhodaei were released after a few hours of interrogation.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, three citizens were arrested in Qasr-e Qand County.

HRANA has identified the individuals as:

  • Alam Azizi, approximately 36 years old, a resident of Azizabad village.
  • Saeed Azizi, approximately 40 years old, a resident of Gehjan village.
  • Javid Kadkhodaei, approximately 33 years old, a resident of Beg village.

All three individuals are from villages in Qasreqand County, Sistan and Baluchestan province.

According to information received by HRANA, the arrests took place at noon on Saturday, March 8, at the home of Alam Azizi, carried out by security forces.

A source close to the family of one of the detainees confirmed the news to HRANA, stating: “Saeed and Javid were transferred to Nikshahr County after their arrest. They were released after three hours of interrogation. Alam Azizi was transferred to Zahedan following his arrest, but there is no information available about his whereabouts.”

As of the time of this report, the reasons for the arrests and the charges against these individuals remain unknown.

Alam Azizi has previously been arrested due to his activities.

Marzieh Ghafari-Zadeh Remains in Legal Limbo Over a Month After Arrest

HRANA News Agency – More than a month after her arrest, Marzieh Ghafari-Zadeh, a Tehran resident, remains in Evin Prison with no clarity on her legal status.

A source close to her family told HRANA: “Ms. Ghafari-Zadeh was arrested by security forces on February 1 and transferred to Ward 1A, the IRGC Intelligence Detention Facility. After completing her interrogation, she was moved to the women’s ward of Evin Prison on February 18.”

The source added: “Bail was set for her release, but the case officer opposed it. She has been battling cancer for the past couple of years and is undergoing treatment. Given her condition, prolonged detention could seriously impact her health.”

As of the time of this report, the reasons for her arrest and the charges against her remain unknown.

Marzieh Ghafari-Zadeh, a former political prisoner from the 1980s, has spent over 25 years doing volunteer work in southern Tehran. She is an active member of the 13 Aban Cultural Association and has been dedicated to supporting pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children.

Prisoner Executed in Hamedan Prison on Drug-Related Charges

HRANA News Agency – At dawn on March 5, a prisoner sentenced to death on drug-related charges was executed in Hamedan Prison.

HRANA has identified the executed prisoner as Jalal Ashkani, a resident of Hamedan.

According to information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Ashkani was arrested in 2020 on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Hamedan Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, prison and judicial authorities have not officially announced the execution.

Juvenile Offender Faces Execution in Yasuj; Family Appeals for Public Support

HRANA News Agency – Sasan Shadman, an 18-year-old resident of Yasuj, has been sentenced to death by a criminal court for a murder he committed at the age of 16. His family is urgently seeking to raise the required diya (blood money) in an effort to prevent the execution.

A source close to the family told HRANA, “Sasan was only 16 when, due to an unfortunate mistake, he became involved in a fatal incident. He was later sentenced to death by the criminal court.”

In a public plea, his family has called for assistance in collecting the necessary diya, hoping to secure a reprieve from execution.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran documented 812 cases related to the right to life, including the sentencing of 214 individuals to death and the execution of 930 individuals. Among these, 4 executions were carried out in public. Of those executed, 818 were male, 26 were female, and 5 were juvenile offenders—individuals under 18 years old at the time of their alleged crimes.

Seven Prisoners Executed in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad

At dawn on Saturday, March 1, 2025, seven prisoners were executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.

The identities of four of them have been confirmed as Masoud Yagizi (Brahooie), Aref Sedighpour from Kerman, Asieh Ghavi-Cheshm (female), and Jalal Afagh. These prisoners had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court. Ghavi-Cheshm and Afagh had been sentenced to death in a joint case.

The identities and charges of the other three individuals are still under investigation by HRANA.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not publicly announced these executions.

HRANA News Agency – On Thursday, February 27, a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges was executed in Sari Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, the executed prisoner has been identified as Ali Khalili, a resident of Mashhad.

HRANA has learned that Khalili was arrested in 2020 on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, prison officials and relevant authorities have not publicly announced his execution.

HRANA News Agency – At dawn today, February 27, two prisoners previously sentenced to death on drug-related charges were executed in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan.

HRANA has identified the executed prisoners as Morteza Jafari and Javad Mohammad Khani.

Based on information obtained by HRANA, both individuals had been arrested on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

Mohammad Amin Akhlaghi Attempts Suicide in Vakilabad Prison

HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Amin Akhlaghi Savojbolaghi, one of the defendants in the case known as the “Killing of Basij Member Ruhollah Ajamian,” attempted suicide while serving his prison sentence in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad.

His brother announced in a social media post yesterday that following the suicide attempt, Akhlaghi was kept under inadequate medical care for 24 hours. He emphasized that Akhlaghi is in critical physical and mental condition and is unable to withstand further imprisonment.

Akhlaghi was arrested in Karaj during the 2022 nationwide protests in connection with the case involving the death of Ruhollah Ajamian, a Basij member.

In January 2023, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of two defendants in this case while overturning the convictions of 14 others, referring their cases to a parallel court for retrial. On January 7, 2023, the death sentences of Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini were carried out.

In late August 2023, following the Supreme Court’s approval of his conviction, Akhlaghi was transferred to Mashhad Prison to serve his sentence. Earlier that year, Branch 1 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court had sentenced him to five years in prison.

Previously, the Chief Justice of Alborz Province had announced that the charges against three defendants in this case—Behrad Ali Kenari, Javad Zargaran, and Reza Shaker Zavardeh—had been revised, leading to their inclusion in a general amnesty and subsequent release.

Over 110 Days in Limbo: Mohammad Loveimi’s Case Remains Unclear

HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Loveimi, a political detainee, has been held in uncertainty at Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz for nearly four months since his arrest, with no clear charges or legal proceedings in sight.

A source familiar with his case confirmed to HRANA: “More than 110 days have passed since Mr. Loveimi’s arrest, yet he remains in legal limbo at Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz. There is still no information about the reasons for his detention or the charges against him, and authorities have not allowed his release on bail.”

According to information obtained by HRANA, Mohammad Loveimi was arrested by security forces in November 2024 and transferred to Ward 5 of Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

Earlier in 2024, Loveimi had been released from the same prison after completing a nine-month sentence.
