Execution of Inmate in Qezel Hesar Prison

On October 11, 2023, an inmate who had been convicted of murder faced execution at Qezel Hesar (Ghezel Hesar) Prison in Karaj, as revealed by Etemad News.

The prisoner who met his fate through hanging was found guilty of the murder of a friend in a coffee house seven years ago. Following the crime, he fled to Turkey, where Turkish authorities apprehended him. He was subsequently transferred to Interpol and later into the custody of Iranian authorities.

HRANA had reported just yesterday about the transfer of six death-row inmates to solitary confinement in Qezel Hesar, indicating their impending executions.

According to data compiled by the Center of Statistics of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA), between October 10, 2022, and October 8, 2023, a total of 659 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, representing a 24% increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Execution of Inmate in Bam Prison

On Tuesday, October 10, Bam Prison in Kerman province bore witness to the execution of an inmate convicted of murder.

The inmate has been identified as Hossein Alizadeh, aged 30, originally from Iranshahr, according to Haal Vsh.

Alizadeh had been sentenced to death a decade ago. Two days prior to his execution, he was transferred to the quarantine section of the prison.

According to data compiled by the Center of Statistics of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA), between October 10, 2022, and October 8, 2023, a total of 659 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, representing a 24% increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Three Inmates Executed in Kerman Prison

Kerman Prison conducted the execution of three inmates on October 9, as reported by Haal Vsh.

One of the inmates has been identified as Narui (Narooie)(first name unknown), who was convicted of drug-related offenses. The identities and convictions of the other two inmates remain undisclosed, though there are indications that they may be Afghan nationals.

As of the time of writing, there have been no official statements or reports from domestic media sources within the country regarding these executions.

Inmate Executed in Khash Prison

On Saturday morning, March 12, 2022, an inmate who had been previously convicted for murder was executed in Khash prison located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank News, on Saturday, March 12, 2022, the execution of an inmate identified as Alam Yarahmadzehi, age 48, was carried out in Khash prison.

Yarahmadzehi was accused and convicted of murder during 2010. He was relocated to the quarantine section of the prison the day before as a routine procedure while awaiting execution.

This execution has not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between January 1 of 2021 and December 20 of 2021, at least 299 citizens, including four juvenile offenders, were executed. In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 88% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

 

Three Inmates Executed in Rajai Shahr and Kerman Prisons

This week, in addition to juvenile offender Arman Abdolali, three inmates were executed in Rajai Shahr and Kerman Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, an inmate who was previously convicted of murder was executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj on Wednesday, November 24. At the same time, three other inmates, after being sent to the foot of the gallows, were able to obtain additional time from the “blood avengers” at the very last minute, and were sent back to their cells.

Reportedly, the executed man was personnel of a contracting company working for Tehran municipality. As part of his duty, he stopped a van driver, who was working as a scrap metal collector, to check his permit for this work. The verbal quarrel ends up in a fight between them. During the fight, the van driver was hit in the head, fainted and subsequently died from the fracture in his head in hospital.

According to the victim’s son, who witnessed the incident, the man hit his father’s head with brass knuckles led to his death. Despite recognizing the homicide as a semi-deliberate killing by the judge in the first trial, the Supreme Court overturned the verdict. In the second trial, he was sentenced to death and the verdict was confirmed by the Supreme Court. He had been sent to the gallows the previous year, but was that time able to obtain some more time from the blood avengers before being executed.

In Kerman Prison, according to Rasank news, on Thursday, November 25, two inmates, who have been identified as Abdolsattar She-Baksh and Khan-Mohammad Rahman-Zehi, were executed. They have been charged with drug-related crimes. Both had been in jail for three years.

Inmate Executed in Mashhad Prison

On Wednesday, November 3, an inmate who had been previously convicted of murder was executed in Mashhad Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna, an inmate, identified by his first name as Abdollah had been arrested in 2018 along with two other men and accused of murdering a 60-year-old man.

Following the completion of the investigation, the criminal case was delivered to Branch 15 of the Criminal Court in Khorasan Province. The court sentenced Abdollah to the death penalty on a charge of murder and imprisonment and lashes on a charge of stealing. The second defendant was sentenced to 25 years in prison on the charge of aiding in murder and murder planning. The third-row defendant, identified as 19-year-old Saeed, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on the charge of aiding and abetting the murder.

The defendants have also been sentenced to long-term imprisonment for previous attempting to murder and murder planning. These verdicts were upheld by branch 39 of the Supreme Court of Iran.

Inmate Executed in Shiraz Central Prison

On Tuesday, November 2, an inmate who had been previously convicted of murder was executed in Shiraz Central Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank news outlet, 23-year-old Mohammad Raisi was a resident of a village in Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

“Last night, Mohammad called his family to tell them that he has been transferred to the quarantine section of the prison,” an informed source was quoted as saying in the report. “This morning, his family came to Shiraz to receive his body from prison officials, but they were referred to a hospital mortuary.”

Inmate Executed in the Central Prison of Karaj City

On Wednesday, October 20, an inmate was executed in the Central Prison of Karaj City.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Newspaper, the inmate had been previously sentenced to death for murdering his wife.

The report states that on November 12, 2018, a middle-aged man reported to the police station in Khoramdasht in Karaj city that his daughter was missing and had not returned home after leaving to go to university.

After a few days, the police found the missing girl’s half-burnt body beside a road. Forensic medicine revealed that the victim had been suffocated to death before the body was burned.

From further investigation, it turned out that after she found out about her husband’s cheating, she was killed by her husband and with the aid of his mistress. Reportedly, the man confessed the crime at trial. Subsequently, the court sentenced him to death and his mistress to ten years in prison on the charge of aiding in kidnapping and murder. The verdict was confirmed by the supreme court of Iran.

The report does not mention the name of the executed man.

Three Inmates Executed in Zanjan, One in Zahedan

Last Wednesday, October 13, three inmates who had previously been sentenced to death on drug-related charges were hanged in Zanjan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights, 41-year-old Hamed Jafar-Zadeh, 39-year-old Soheil Hojjat-Far,  and Yunes (last name unknown ) were executed in Zanjan Prison.

The Baloch Activists Campaign also reported the execution of one inmate in Zahedan Prison on Monday, October 18. According to this report, two days ago, Musa Sheh-bakhsh was transferred to a solitary confinement cell in order to be executed. The charges for which he was convicted are still unknown.

Inmate Yasin Abdollahi Executed in Zahedan Prison

Early Wednesday, September 29, inmate Yasin Abdollahi was executed in Zahedan Prison after nine years of imprisonment.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Abdollahi had previously been convicted of murder and sentenced to death. On Monday, 27 September, he was transferred to a solitary confinement cell in Zahedan Prison, where he was held until the execution took place.

Iran has the highest execution rate per capita in the world, according to international organizations. As The Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) reports, in the period between 1 January 2020 and 20 December 2020, at least 236 people were executed and  95 people were sentenced to death.

Two of the executed were underage and one was carried out in public. As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce 72% of carried-out executions, dubbed as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

At the time of writing, this execution has not been announced by Iranian media and official sources.
