Iran Protests: 93 People Arrested at Protests Receive Prison Sentences in Qazvin

The Chief Justice of Qazvin Province announced that this province’s Revolutionary Court and Criminal Court have recently sentenced 93 people arrested at recent protests to jail terms.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, 93 people were convicted for participating in protests.

According to this judicial official, these individuals are convicted of charges of ‘assembly and collusion against national security, ‘propaganda against the regime on the Internet,’ ‘inciting people for insurrection and murder,’ ‘advocating for anti-regime groups and organizations,’ ‘spreading falsehood on the Internet,’ and ‘disturbing the public order.’

Since the outbreak of nationwide protests, about 18600 people, including journalists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. For more details and statistics on the nationwide protest across Iran, read HRANA’s comprehensive report here.

Six Inmates Executed in Rajai-Shahr and Qazvin Prisons

Five inmates in Rajai-Shahr Prison and one in Qazvin Prison were executed.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on December 14, 2022, Rajai-Shahr Prison officials executed five inmates convicted of murder.

HRANA is working on identifying these individuals.

Also, Kurdpa reported the execution of an inmate identified as Yousef Mirza-Beigi in Qazvin Prison on December 15. He was previously convicted of murder.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

Iranian Labour News Agency Staff Intimidated and Arrested by Security Forces

Since the outbreak of nationwide protests, Labour News Agency (ILNA) staff have been subjected to intimidation and arrest by security institutions.

Somayeh Masroor, the head of ILNA, was arrested at protests and released on bail after a few days.

In another case, leaving the country toward Qatar in order to cover the football world cup news, ILNA’s sports editor was stopped at the airport by security forces. The agents arrested him and seized his passport.

Several other staff have also been summoned, interrogated and forced to sign a letter of commitment.
 
On Wednesday, November 23, IRGC forces arrested ILNA’s reporter Reza Asad-Abadi at his house. Since then, he has not called his family.
 
Also, in mid-November, judicial authorities banned another ILNA reporter in Qazvin, Seyyed Mostafa Jafari, from practising journalism. He was also banned from leaving the country for six months.

 

Eight Inmates Executed in Qazvin and Adel-Abad Prisons

On October 5, 2022, two inmates convicted of rape in one legal case were executed in Qazvin Prison. Moreover, on October 2 and 3, six inmates were executed in Adel-Abad Prison in Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Iran Human Rights Organization, on October 5, 2022, two inmates, identified as Kiomars Parvaneh and Hasan Hojjati, were executed in Qazvin prison.

These individuals had been arrested and convicted of rape two years ago.
 
Also, last Sunday, Adel-Abad prison officials executed four inmates, of which two have been identified as Abbas Fathalian and Heydar Ramezani. On Monday, two other unidentified prisoners were executed in this prison. All six individuals were previously convicted of drug-related crimes.

On Monday, August 22, 2022, at least four protests took place in Iran.

In Isfahan, a number of farmers demonstrated in front of the Isfahan Regional Water Organization to demand their water portions and other issues.

A number of workers of Qazvin-based chemical and consumer goods Company Tolypers gathered and protested at their workplace. One of the workers said: “Since the beginning of the year, due to the raw material shortage, the factory productivity has been decreased and payments have been delayed for three to four months.”

A number of retirees of Tejarat Bank protested before the central building of this Bank in Tehran.

A number of residents of a district in Dehgolan County, Kurdistan Province, held a protest against mining activities, which have damaged farmlands, and water springs.

Mohammad-Reza Morad Behroozi Is Facing New Charges in Prison

Political Prisoner Mohammad-Reza Morad Behroozi is currently serving a one-year sentence in Qazvin Prison and the judicial authorities have opened a new case against him.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, political prisoner Mohammad-Reza Morad Behroozi is facing new charges, including “publishing inappropriate content on the internet”, and “propaganda against the regime”.

According to an informed source, for this new legal case, the prosecutor’s office has granted a 740 million tomans bail.

Behroozi is denied access to a lawyer and phone calls.

Behroozi was arrested on August 21, 2021, at his house following posting a video on social media in which he criticized the Supreme Leader for banning Covid-19 vaccines from other countries.

In a trial in absentia, Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Qazvin, headed by Judge Esmail Amini, sentenced Behroozi to one year in prison on the charge of “offensive statements against the Supreme Leader of Iran”.

On Monday, July 25, at least four protests took place in Iran.

A number of workers of the Qazvin-based chemical and consumer goods Company Tolypers held a protest in front of the Governor-general’s office to demand their delayed payments and ask for job security.

A number of shareholders of the Pakdasht housing cooperation blocked the road in protest against not receiving their pre-purchased houses. Due to a property dispute between the Ministry of Roads & Urban Development and the Union of Pakdasht Labor Housing Cooperatives, about four thousand shareholders are still waiting to receive their houses after 18 years.

A group of employees of the Regional power companies of Khuzestan and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province protests in front of companies’ offices to demand an increase in wages to keep up with inflation.

A group of workers of Iran National Steel Industrial Group gathered in front of the Governor General building in Ahvaz to demand an increase in wages and the implementation of the Job Classification Plan.

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, at least 27 protests took place in Iran

The pensioners of the Social Security Organization protested against low pensions in Karaj, Ahvaz, Isfahan, Arak, Babol, Mashhad, Tabriz, Zanjan, Kerman, Ilam, Khorramshahr, Tehran, Khorramabad, Shushtar, Sirjan, Ardabil, Sirjan, Rasht, Ramhormoz, Sari, Kermanshah, Birjand, Hamedan, Qazvin and Dezful.

In Behbahan, the green maintenance workers of the Municipality gathered to demand their unpaid wages.

Coming from different cities, a number of farmers active in poultry and ostrich farming held a protest in front of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad.

A group of interns of the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences protested before a hospital in Tehran.

On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at least 18 protests took place in Iran.

The retirees of the Telecommunication Company of Iran held protests in front of the company headquarters in Tehran, Khorramabad, Qazvin, Shiraz, Hamedan, Javanrud, Shahrkurd, Yazd, Urmia, Tabriz, Ahvaz, Rasht, Sari and Arak.

The retirees protested against low and unpaid benefits, delays in payments and not complying with recruitment regulations.

Continuing their protests against low pensions, Iranian pensioners held a protest in front of the Governor-General Building in Shush.

A group of workers of the Tabriz Petrochemical Company gathered in front of the company’s entrance to demand closing disparities in wages and elimination of discrimination.

Morad Behroozi Convicted for Criticizing Supreme Leader

Recently, Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Qazvin sentenced Mohammad-Reza Morad Behroozi to one year in prison. Moreover, his wife, Soori Babai Chegini was summoned to Branch 2 of the Public and Revolutionary Court in Mohammadiyeh County of Qazvin Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, in a trial in absentia, Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Qazvin, headed by Judge Esmail Amini, sentenced Behroozi to one year in prison on the charge of “offensive statements against the Supreme Leader of Iran.” Additionally, Branch 102 of the Criminal Court of Mohammadiyeh ordered Behroozi to pay a fine in the amount of 10 million tomans.

Beroozi’s wife, Soori Babai Chegini has also been accused of “propaganda against the regime”.

Behroozi was arrested on August 21, 2021, at his house following posting a video on social media in which he criticized the Supreme Leader for banning the foreign Covid-19 vaccines.

Behroozi is a resident of Qazvin and the father of three children.
