Qorveh: Hazhir Yaghoubi Sentenced to Imprisonment and Flogging

HRANA – Hazhir Yaghoubi, a resident of Qorveh and one of those arrested during the January 2026 protests, was sentenced by a criminal court to one year in prison and 31 lashes.

According to HRANA, citing Kolbar News, Hazhir Yaghoubi has been sentenced to imprisonment and flogging.

According to the report, under a ruling issued by the criminal court and communicated to Mr. Yaghoubi, he was sentenced to one year in prison and 31 lashes.

Hazhir Yaghoubi was arrested by security forces during the January 2026 protests in connection with a strike by shopkeepers in Qorveh. After spending some time in detention, he was temporarily released on bail pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

Hazhir Yaghoubi is a resident of Qorveh and a local shopkeeper.

January 2026 Protests: 13 Citizens Sentenced to Prison, Flogging, and Exile

HRANA – Mohammad Mohammadi, Mostafa Gholami, Zahed Khaledian, Vahed Khaledian, Shahrokh Mostafaei, Fereydoun Almasi, Rasoul Ghorbanpour, Saman Ganji, Davoud Rezaei, Reza Dehghani, Abuzar Moradhaseli, Anvar Alipanah, and Amir Khaledian, residents of Qorveh County, have been sentenced by Branch 102 of the Qorveh Criminal Court to a combined 24 years, three months, and one day in prison. In addition, Reza Dehghani, Abuzar Moradhaseli, Anvar Alipanah, and Amir Khaledian were sentenced to a combined 196 lashes. Amir Khaledian was also sentenced to two years of exile in Minab.

According to HRANA, citing Kolbar News, 13 citizens in Qorveh County have been sentenced to a combined 24 years, three months, and one day in prison, 196 lashes, and exile.

According to the report, the sentences were issued by Branch 102 of the Qorveh Criminal Court on charges including “disrupting public order” and “assembly and collusion.” Under the ruling, Mohammad Mohammadi was sentenced to four years, nine months, and one day in prison; Mostafa Gholami, Zahed Khaledian, and Vahed Khaledian were each sentenced to three years in prison; and Shahrokh Mostafaei and Fereydoun Almasi were each sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.

The ruling also sentenced Rasoul Ghorbanpour, Saman Ganji, and Davoud Rezaei to one year of discretionary imprisonment each.

Under the ruling issued by the same judicial branch, Reza Dehghani was sentenced to one year in prison and 41 lashes; Abuzar Moradhaseli to one year in prison and 31 lashes; Anvar Alipanah to one year in prison and 50 lashes; and Amir Khaledian to one year in prison and 74 lashes. Khaledian was also sentenced to two years of exile in the city of Minab, Hormozgan Province.

The report did not provide further details about the case or specify the charges brought against each of the individuals.

The individuals were arrested during the nationwide January protests and were eventually released after a period of detention.

January 2026 Protests: Flogging Sentences of Two Women Carried Out

HRANA – The sentences of 31 lashes imposed on Neda Dadehjani and Setayesh (Behnoosh) Sarabi, two residents of Qorveh who were arrested during the January 2026 protests, were carried out on August 22, following their summons and appearance at the Qorveh Criminal Court. After the flogging sentences were carried out, the two women were taken into custody to serve their prison terms and transferred to Sanandaj Prison.

According to HRANA, citing Kolbar News, the flogging sentences of Neda Dadehjani and Setayesh Sarabi have been carried out.

According to the report, on Saturday, August 22, the sentences of 31 lashes imposed on Dadehjani and Sarabi were carried out after they were summoned to and appeared before the Qorveh Criminal Court. Following the flogging, the two women were taken into custody to serve their three-year prison sentences and transferred to Sanandaj Prison.

Neda Dadehjani and Setayesh (Behnoosh) Sarabi had previously faced a two-part legal case. In the first part, Branch 102 of the Qorveh Criminal Court sentenced each of them to one year in prison, 31 lashes, and two years of exile to Nikshahr County on the charge of “disrupting public order and tranquility.”

In the second part of the case, Branch 1 of the Qorveh Revolutionary Court sentenced each of them to two years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit a crime against national security.” Of their combined prison sentences, two years are enforceable.

The two women were arrested by security forces in connection with the nationwide protests of January 2026.

Neda Dadehjani, who is active in theater, had previously received an award at a regional theater festival for persons with disabilities. Setayesh (Behnoosh) Sarabi is also a resident of Qorveh.

January 2026 Protests: Tara Farhangian Sentenced to Prison, Flogging, and Exile

HRANA – Tara Farhangian, a student from Qorveh and one of those arrested during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced by judicial authorities in the county to one year in prison, 31 lashes, a fine of 120 million tomans, and two years of exile in Zabol.

According to HRANA, citing Kolbar News, Tara Farhangian has been sentenced to imprisonment, flogging, and exile.

According to the report, Branch 102 of the Qorveh Criminal Court sentenced Ms. Farhangian to one year of imprisonment and 31 lashes on charges of “disrupting public peace and order” and “resisting officers in the performance of their duties.” As an additional punishment, she was also sentenced to two years of exile in Zabol.

In another part of her case, the Qorveh Revolutionary Court sentenced her to pay a fine of 120 million tomans on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “assembly and collusion to commit a crime against national security.”

Tara Farhangian, 21, is from Qorveh and studies physical education at Hamedan University. She was arrested during the January 2026 protests and was released after some time upon posting bail.

Two Women Sentenced to Prison, Flogging, and Internal Exile in Qorveh

HRANA – Neda Dadehjani and Setayesh (Behnoosh) Sarabi, two residents of Qorveh who were arrested in connection with the January 2026 protests, have been sentenced by the Revolutionary and Criminal Courts of Qorveh to a combined total of six years in prison, 62 lashes, and four years of internal exile to Nik Shahr County.

According to HRANA, citing Kolbar News, two citizens in Qorveh have been sentenced to prison, flogging, and internal exile.

According to the report, Branch 102 of the Qorveh Criminal Court convicted Neda Dadehjani and Setayesh (Behnoosh) Sarabi on the charge of “disrupting public order and peace.” Each was sentenced to one year in prison, 31 lashes, and two years of internal exile to Nik Shahr County.

In a separate part of their case, Branch One of the Qorveh Revolutionary Court convicted both women of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security,” sentencing each to an additional two years in prison.

Based on the final ruling, each woman received a sentence of three years’ imprisonment, 31 lashes, and two years of internal exile. Under the final judgment, two years of each prison sentence are enforceable.

The two women were arrested by security forces in connection with the nationwide protests held in January 2026.

Neda Dadehjani, who is active in theater, had previously won an award at a regional theater festival for persons with disabilities. Setayesh (Behnoosh) Sarabi is a resident of Qorveh.

Retired Teacher Zina Fereydounian Sentenced to Prison

HRANA News Agency – Zina Fereydounian, a retired teacher from Qorveh, has been sentenced by the city’s Revolutionary Court to over 13 months of prison and an additional three years of suspended imprisonment in two separate cases.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, Fereydounian was sentenced to 10 months in prison for “propaganda against the regime.” In a separate case, she was sentenced to 91 days of discretionary imprisonment and an additional three years of suspended prison time. The court also imposed a travel ban on her.

Following the court’s refusal to allow her to serve her sentence under electronic monitoring outside prison, the 10-month sentence was referred to the sentence enforcement unit.

A source close to Faridounian’s family told HRANA: “In Qorveh, she supported vulnerable groups by covering wedding and living expenses. Her prison sentence stems solely from her criticism of social conditions.”

Prisoner Executed in Qorveh Prison

HRANA News Agency – On Saturday, February 24, a prisoner sentenced to death on murder charges was executed in Qorveh Prison, Kurdistan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, the executed prisoner has been identified as Naeem Abdi, a 21-year-old resident of Malujeh village in Qorveh County.

HRANA has learned that approximately two years ago, Abdi, along with his father, was involved in the murder of a taxi driver. He was subsequently arrested, convicted of murder, and sentenced to death by the Criminal Court.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and other relevant institutions have not publicly announced the execution.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran documented 812 cases related to the right to life, including the sentencing of 214 individuals to death and the execution of 930 individuals. Among these, 4 executions were carried out in public. Of those executed, 818 were male, 26 were female, and 5 were juvenile offenders—individuals under 18 years old at the time of their alleged crimes.

Kamal Lotfi Arrested by Security Forces in Dehgolan

On April 9, 2024, security forces apprehended Kamal Lotfi in Dehgolan, Kurdistan province, transferring him to an undisclosed facility. His 25-year-old son, Reza Lotfi, tragically lost his life at the hands of regime forces during the nationwide protests on September 19, 2022.

Confirming Lotfi’s arrest, a source close to his family informed HRANA that he was taken into custody after receiving a summons from the Revolutionary Court of Qorveh. The specific reasons for his arrest, his current location, and the charges against him remain undisclosed at this time.

This is not Lotfi’s first encounter with law enforcement. On April 17, 2023, security forces detained him through physical force, leading to his imprisonment in Kamyaran Prison. He was subsequently released on bail on July 3, 2023.

HRANA’s Daily Review of Protests in Iran

On Thursday, August 25, 2022, at least two protests and one labour strike took place in Iran.

The residents of Hamedan continued their protests against water shortage in front of the Mausoleum of Avicenna. During last week, they experienced repeated water supply outages.

A video circulated on social media shows the police beating a woman during the protest.

The residents of a village in Kazerun County, Fars Province, held a protest against the water disruption.

The truck drivers and truck owners, working for the mining companies, went on strike in Qorveh, Kurdistan Province. They protested against low freight fees. These drivers also face other issues such as the decrease in fuel rations and the increase in road tolls.

Three Workers Killed and One Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

A total of three workers have been killed and one injured in recent accidents that were brought about by unsafe workplace conditions.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna, on November 2, in three workplace accidents in Qorveh, Mahabad and Hafshejan cities, three workers lost their lives and one more was injured.

Ali Naseri, the head of the fire department in Qorveh announced the death of a worker due to the fire that broke out in a bakery.

“In a bakery in a district in the center city of Qorveh, a gas leak from a gas pipe, which had been branched off illegally to be used for bread baking machine, caused a fire in this bakery,”  Naseri commented. “After the neighbors reported the fire, the fire department dispatched the firefighting team to the spot. The firefighters saved two workers from the fire. One of them had severe burns, who was transferred to the hospital.”

The head of the pre-hospital emergency care unit of Qorveh Shahrokh Mohammadi revealed that the 55-year-old baker died in a hospital in Sanandaj city due to severe burns in several parts of his body.

It is worth noting that many bakeries in both urban and rural areas use off-brand gas lines which are not up to code, and this can lead to gas leaks and fires.

In another workplace accident in Mahabad, a worker was poisoned by carbon monoxide gas.

“Following an emergency call, the Emergency Center of Police 110 sent a team to the spot,” the police commander of Mahabad stated. “Preliminary examination of the emergency team revealed the victim, a 50-year-old man, has died of poisoning due to inhaling carbon monoxide gas while he was asleep.”

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, two months after a work accident, in a sugar factory in Hafshjan city in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, one worker died from severe injuries. Reportedly, the victim died from a neck fracture after eight heavy sugar bags fell on top of on him.

“The height of the sugar bag piles should not be more than 1.8 meters,” HSE manager of Hafshjan sugar factory Arash Heyday said. “The government has to take action to unload these warehouses. However, because of the delay in unloading and lack of room, we have to make higher stacks which endanger the workers.”

Iran ranks 102 in workplace safety out of 189 countries.
