57 People Arrested During the Protests in Zahedan

The Sistan and Baluchestan chief of the police announced that today, October 21, 57 people were arrested during the protests in Zahedan. He claimed that all leaders and provocateurs have been identified and will soon be apprehended.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Fars News Agency, on October 21, 2022, 57 protestors were arrested in Zahedan.

Nationwide Protests in Iran Continue on Day Sixteen

On October 1, 2022, despite the heavy presence of riot police and plainclothes security agents, Iranian people held demonstrations in many cities including Mashhad, Rasht, Dehgolan, Isfahan, Shiraz, Tehran, Shahrekord, Shahin Shahr, Arak, Bukan, Babol, Karaj. Moreover, on at least 27 universities campus, the students held protests. These protests continued in Tehran, Isfahan, Bushehr and at least 25 universities on the following day, October 2.

In most cases, peaceful student protests turned violent by the police as dozens of students were arrested by the security forces. On the University of Isfahan campus, the security agents or the police fired tear gas at the crowd of protesting students.

Last night, the police and security forces surrounded the Sharif University of Technology, chasing and arresting violently the students who left the campus. The police fired tear gas and pellet guns, leading to several students’ injuries. 

According to Iran’s Student Union, several protesting students were trapped in a university building by university security agents and then arrested by the police.

The students chanted slogans such as “Death to the dictator”, “don’t call it protests, it is now a revolution”, and “jailed students should be freed.” They also chanted slogans against the Supreme Leader, Khamenei.

On October 2, in Isfahan and Piranshahr, traders and shopkeepers joined the general strike and closed their shops.

Meanwhile, in recent days, the record-breaking hashtag Mahsa Amini (مهسا_امینی#) reached over 200 million times on Twitter.

Like the previous days, most parts of the country, especially Kurdistan, faced internet and mobile phone disruptions and outages.

Last Friday, September 30, in Zahedan, in Sistan and Baluchistan province, the security forces opened fire at the crowd of protestors coming from the Friday prayer. According to Iranian Sunni cleric Molavi Abdul Hamid, at least 40 people were killed in this incident.

The number of people arrested is increasing day on day. HRANA identified 31 arrests alone for yesterday.

Kurdistan police chief claimed that more than 150 people arrested during the “unrest” have been released.

It is estimated that 30 to 40 students at the Sharif University of Technology were arrested.

Anti-riot police and security forces use live ammunition against the protestors. HRANA has identified 150 death tolls, of which some have been verified by HRANA after fact-checking.

Nationwide Protests in Iran Continues on Day Nine

On September 25, the nationwide protests continued nine days after the death of Mahsa Amini. Demonstrations continued in at least 19 cities and universities, as the number of arrests and the individuals injured or killed increased. There were disruptions and outages in internet and phone services and social media was filtered. 

On September 24,25, 2022, despite the heavy presence of riot police and plainclothes security agents, people held demonstrations in many cities, including Shahin-Shahr, Karaj, Shiraz, Amol, Babol, Sanandaj, Tehran, Fardis, Isfahan, Tabriz, Zahedan, Fuman, Sabzevar, Qaen, Shahr-e-Rey, and Nowshahr. 

The Sharif University of Technology and the University of Tehran students held protests on campus, chanting slogans  such as “Death to the dictator”, “Jailed student should be freed”, and “We will fight, we will die, but we will take back Iran.”

On September 25, the Coordination Council of the Iranian Teachers Trade Association issued a statement asking teachers and students all over Iran to join the general strike.

 It is estimated that many individuals have been arrested, as 450 arrests were reported only in the city of Sari. However, HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, is still working on fact-checking and reviewing the reports independently. HRANA has identified and verified 48 individuals arrested so far.

There were also reports of several individuals killed as a result of the brutality of the security apparatus. The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting reported 41 deaths, of which HRANA has identified 38.

Nine Inmates Executed in Zanjan, Birjand, and Zahedan Prisons.

Nine inmates have been executed in Zanjan, Birjand, and Zahedan Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, on September 10, 2022, the Zahedan Prison officials executed five inmates, including a woman. 

Four of the inmates have been identified as Khaled Raisi, 38, Amrollah Basij, 27, Abdolnasir She Bakhsh, 42, and Hooshang Kurd, 27. All have been convicted of murder. The female prisoner is still unidentified. 

Haal Vsh also reported the execution of an inmate identified as Mansoor Barahooie in Birjand Prison. Birjand Revolutionary Court sentenced Barahooie to death on drug-related charges in 2019.

On September 11, Iran Human Rights Organization further reported the execution of two inmates identified as Mehdi Aghoosh, 30, and Hassan Aghamohammadi, 27, in Zanjan and Isfahan Prisons, both convicted of murder. Four years ago, Aghoosh was accused and convicted of killing a man in a group fight. Aghamohammadi was convicted of murder three years ago.

Iran Human Rights Organization has additionally reported that an inmate identified as Ahmad Panahi Khanghah, 40, convicted of murder was executed in Ardabil Prison.

These executions have not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

A group of workers of the Tehran Darugar Company held a protest against a three-month delay in payments. According to these workers, the employer’s claim that the raw materials are in short supply is baseless and ingredients of shampoo and detergent are available on the market.

The workers and personnel of the Railway Services and Technical Construction Engineering Company Rezwan Dorud gathered and protested in a railway station in Zarand City, Yazd Province, to ask for levelling up wages.

A group of pensioners of the Social Security Organization gathered before the Governor’s office in Ahvaz to ask for their demands.

A number of workers of Azarpark Company gathered in front of this company office in Tabriz to protest against a three months delay in wages and the company’s decision not to raise the wages.

A number of residents of Zahedan gathered before the National Iranian Oil Company to protest against the revocation of their fuel ration cards.

The scaffold workers of the contractor company Salahshur working in the oil industry went on strike to ask for increasing wages and a shift work schedule with 20 days working followed by 10 days off.

Two Inmates Executed for Drug-related Crimes in Mashhad and Zahedan Prisons

On February 3, two inmates convicted for drug-related crimes were executed in Mashhad and Zahedan prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank News Outlet, an inmate identified as Najibullah (Mohammad-Reza) Gorgij, a resident of Zahedan, was executed in Mashhad Prison. He had been accused of drug-related crimes and been in jail for two years.

Reportedly, the execution was carried out without informing his family and without a last visitation.

Rasank News also reported that on Thursday, Hafizaullah Barahooye, a resident of Zahedan, was executed in Zahedan Prison. He had been convicted for drug-related crimes.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between January 1 of 2020 and December 20 of 2021, at least 299 citizens, including four juvenile offenders, were executed. In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period.

Neither of these executions have been announced by judicial authorities or reported by media inside Iran.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 88% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

Two Inmates Executed in Lakan and Zahedan Prisons

On January 29, two inmates on death row were executed in Lakan and Zahedan prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Hossein Kaveh, age 50, who was convicted for murder, was executed in Lakan Prison in Rasht. He had been imprisoned for nine years.

Rasank News Outlet also reported the execution of an inmate identified as Mohammad-Reza Afereydoon, 32 years old, in Zahedan Prison. He was convicted for drug-related crimes and had been in jail since 2017.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported these executions at the time of writing.

Inmate Executed in Ghayen Prison

On December 14, an inmate on death row due to his conviction for drug-related crimes was executed in Ghayen Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank News Outlet, Ali Nahtani, a resident of Zahedan City, was executed in Ghayen Prison.

None of the official sources and media outlets inside the country has reported this execution at the time of writing.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between October 8 of 2020 and October 9 of 2021, at least 266 citizens, three of whom were juvenile offenders, were executed and 90 citizens were sentenced to death.

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 82% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.

Four Inmates Executed in Kerman Prison

On the morning of December 9, at least four inmates were executed in Kerman Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting The Baloch Activists Campaign, the inmates had been relocated to the quarantine section of the prison the day before as routine procedure for execution.

This report identified one of the inmates as 23-years-old Khaled She-Bakhsh, a resident of Zahedan. She-Bakhsh had been sentenced to 25 years in prison for drug-related crimes, but his sentence was changed to the death penalty in recent weeks as revenge for an armed conflict between some individuals of his clan “She-Bakhsh” with regime military forces, known as Kerman’s Ranger Unit Forces.

Two Inmates Executed in Mashhad and Kerman Prisons

Two inmates were recently executed in Mashhad and Kerman Prisons.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rasank News, in two separate cases, Emrahim Narooie and Heydar Gholjaie, both residents of Zahedan County, were executed in Mashhad and Kerman Prisons respectively. They had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

On Sunday, November 28,  Narooie was executed in Mashhad Prison. Gholjaie was executed in Kerman Prison on Thursday, November 25.

Reportedly, Heydar Gholjaie visited his family before his execution. In 2018, he was arrested at a checkpoint on the road connecting Bam City to Kerman for carrying drugs. Since then he had been jailed in Kerman Prison.
