Iran Protests: Five Protestors Sentenced to Death

According to the judiciary’s statements, since the beginning of nationwide protests, five people arrested at protests have been sentenced to death on the charges of “enmity against God” and “spreading corruption on earth.” Moreover, several other citizens have faced the same charges, which can result in a death sentence.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Mizan Online, Judiciary media centre, five protestors have been sentenced to death.

Although the judicial officials did not disclose these individuals’ identities, based on previous reports obtained about ongoing legal cases in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court, two of these five people are likely Mohammad Borooghani and Mohammad Ghobadlu.

The judicial authorities claimed that one of these individuals ran over a police/security agent in a car leading to his death, and the second injured a police agent. The third detainee has been accused of “closing the roads, creating terror and damaging public property.”
 
At least nine other individuals have faced the same charges in Alborz and Tehran Provinces.

 

 

Iran Protests: Three Students Arrested in Shiraz

On November 15, 2022, related to nationwide protests, security forces arrested three dentistry students at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in a student dormitory.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on November 15, 2022, three dentistry students, Milad Khoobani, Hamed Rahbar, and Meisam Nikpay were arrested in Shiraz.

According to an informed source, IRGC intelligence agents have arrested them in a student dormitory. The reason for these arrests and their whereabouts are still unknown.

 

Former Political Prisoner Hassan Asadi Zeidabadi Arrested

On November 16, 2022, security forces arrested former political prisoner Hassan Asadi Zeidabadi in Tehran and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on November 16, 2022, Hassan Asadi Zeidabadi was arrested in Tehran.

According to an informed source, IRGC’s intelligence is responsible for his arrest. The reason for Zeidabadi’s arrest and his whereabouts are still unknown.

Zeidabadi faced other arrests and convictions on prior occasions. In 2015, he was released from prison after serving five years. In 2020, he faced others charges for signing a statement known as 77 political activists’ statement condemning the regime’s violence against the protestors and asking for bringing the perpetrators of the shooting to justice.

 

Five Qashqai Civil Rights Activists Arrested

On November 14, 2022, security forces arrested five Qashqai civil rights activists, Avazollah Safari Kashkooli (teacher and Turkish language researcher), Esmail Musaloo, Jasem Bahadori Sakkez, Samad Avaye Khosh, and Hamid Hazrati in Shiraz, Firuzabad and Asaluyeh. The agents transferred these individuals to the Ministry of Intelligence office in Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, five civil rights activists for the Qashqai community were arrested by security forces.

The reason for these arrests and the charges are still unknown.

Judiciary Media Center announced that three individuals arrested during recent protests have been sentenced to death by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on the charges of “enmity against God” and “spreading corruption on earth.”

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting ISNA, three protestors arrested in Tehran were sentenced to death.

According to these verdicts, these individuals have been convicted allegedly for “closing the roads, creating terror and damaging public property.”

The judicial authorities also claimed that one of these individuals ran over a police/security agent in a car leading to his death.

Inmate Executed in Mashhad

On November 16, 2022, an inmate convicted of murder was executed in Mashhad Central Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Rokna, Wednesday, November 16, 2022, Mashhad Central Prison officials executed an inmate identified as Shahab (last name unknown), age 46.
 
Four years ago, he was arrested and sentenced to death by the Criminal Court of Razavi Khorasan Province. 

Former Political Prisoner Sajjad Zare Arrested in Shiraz

Recently, security forces arrested former political prisoner Sajjad Zare in Shiraz.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, former political prisoner Sajjad Zare was arrested in Shiraz.

According to an informed source, on November 14 evening, Zare made a phone call telling his family about his arrest.
The reason for his arrest is still unknown.

Zare has faced another arrest and conviction on a prior occasion. In October 2021, he was released from Adel-Abad Prison after serving his sentence.

 

Political Activist Mohammad Ghadami Sentenced to Ten Years

Recently, the Hamedan Special Clerical Court sentenced political activist Mohammad Ghadami to 10 years imprisonment.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Mohammad Ghadami, a resident of Baneh County, Kurdistan Province, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment.

According to this verdict issued on November 2, Ghadami was sentenced to five years and six months for blasphemy, 26 months for insulting the Supreme Leader of Iran, 13 months for ‘propaganda against the regime’ and 13 months for ‘disturbing public opinions.’
If the verdict is upheld on appeal, based on Article 138 of the Islamic Penal Code, five years and six months for the first charge will be enforceable.

 

Baha’i Citizen Parva Behdad Arrested

On November 14, 2022, security forces arrested Baha’i citizen Parva Behdad at her house in Isfahan and took her to an undisclosed location. The agents also searched her home and confiscated some of her personal belongings.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on November 14, 2022, Parva Behdad was arrested at her house in Isfahan.

The reason for this arrest, charges and her whereabouts are still unknown.

 

Student Mohammad Gholamzadeh Sentenced to Five Years in Prison

The Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Mohammad Gholamzadeh, a PhD student in sociology at the University of Tehran, to five years imprisonment. On September 24, 2022, he was arrested at protests and transferred to the Great Tehran Penitentiary.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, student Mohammad Gholamzadeh was sentenced to five years in prison.

According to his lawyer, Ali Sharifzadeh, he was charged with “assembly and collusion through participating in student protests.”
