At Least 19 Prisoners Executed on Murder and Drug-Related Charges

HRANA – At dawn today, Tuesday, February 9, 2026, the death sentences of at least 19 prisoners were carried out in prisons across multiple cities. These individuals had previously been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses and murder.

Based on information received by HRANA, Gholam Hassani was executed in Birjand Prison; Fariborz Saljoughi in Bam Prison; Mohammadkaram Jafari in Ilam Prison; Sina Maleki in Borazjan Prison; Javad Najjar in Ahvaz Prison; Morad Jahromi in Jiroft Prison; Taghi Zalpour in Mahabad Prison; Amin Torkaman in Malayer Prison; Mehrshad Alinia in Damghan Prison; Ali Bazargan in Chabahar Prison; Mojtaba Barani in Rasht Prison; Yadollah Mokhtari in Sirjan Prison; and Mahmoud Niazi in Lahijan Prison. These prisoners had previously been arrested on murder charges and sentenced to death by criminal courts.

Separately, the executions of Ayoub Soufi in Khaf Prison, Afshin Ghanbari in Yazd Prison, Rajabali Arya in Sabzevar Prison, and Parviz Pirovani in Shiraz Prison were carried out on charges related to drug offenses. At the same time, two other prisoners were executed in Yazd Prison on similar charges; their identities are currently under review by HRANA.

As of the time of this report, these executions have not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

According to HRA’s annual report, at least 2,063 people were executed in Iran during 2025. Based on this report, executions increased by 119% compared to 2024. In many cases, due to secrecy, prisoners were even denied the right to a final visit with their families prior to execution.

At Least 282 Arrested in Connection with Nationwide Protests

HRANA – Official media outlets have reported the arrest of at least 282 individuals in the cities of Karaj, Anzali, Bam, Parand, and Yazd Province in connection with the recent protests. This figure includes the arrest of eight people in Karaj, Anzali, and Bam; 135 people in Parand; and 139 foreign nationals in Yazd Province.

According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the police commander of Alborz Province claimed that those arrested were involved in setting fire to a police kiosk and the municipal building of District One in Karaj. The police commander of Anzali County also announced the arrest of two individuals, alleging that they had played a role in setting fire to a chain store. Additionally, the police commander of Bam County stated that one individual, described as a “leader,” had been identified and arrested by the Public Security Police.

Separately, the Tasnim News Agency, quoting the Public Relations Office of the Haidar Guards Corps in Parand, reported that 135 people were arrested during the recent protests in the city. In a statement issued by the organization, the detainees were accused of “destruction of public property and insulting national and religious sanctities.”

In another report, Tasnim announced the arrest of 139 foreign nationals in Yazd Province. Ahmad Negahban, the police commander of Yazd Province, claimed that these individuals had taken advantage of the “existing social atmosphere” to play a role in organizing and directing the protests and, in some cases, had connections with networks outside the country.

These reports do not provide information regarding the identities, places of detention, or legal status of those arrested.

It should be noted that gatherings and strikes by shopkeepers and bazaar merchants began in Tehran on December 28, 2025, After two days, the protests spread beyond markets and commercial centers. With the participation of students, citizens, and various social groups, these demonstrations turned into one of the most widespread protests of recent years. Following the crackdown on the protests by security and law enforcement forces, thousands of people were killed or injured, and tens of thousands were arrested or summoned by security agencies. Execution of 15 Prisoners on Murder and Drug-Related Charges

HRANA – At dawn today, February 3, the death sentences of 15 prisoners, previously convicted on charges related to drug offenses and murder, were carried out in the prisons of Sirjan, Rasht, Yazd, Ahvaz, Jiroft, Borazjan, Ilam, Khaf, Bam, Birjand, Lahijan, Mahabad, Sabzevar, Shiraz, and Malayer.

Based on information received by HRANA, Saeed Rouhani was executed in Sirjan Prison; Ayoub Lashkari in Rasht Prison; Bahram Bani Asad in Ahvaz Prison; Hedayat Mirzaei in Borazjan Prison; Afshin Maleki in Ilam Prison; Tahmasb Mehrjou in Khaf Prison; Ali Haghighatdoost in Lahijan Prison; Hirman Sadri in Mahabad Prison; and Majid Sohrabi in Malayer Prison. These individuals had been sentenced to death on charges of murder, and their sentences were carried out.

Additionally, Kourosh Niri in Yazd Prison, Eshaq Miri in Jiroft Prison, one prisoner in Bam Prison, Moradbeyg Haghighat in Birjand Prison, Pouya Lashani in Sabzevar Prison, and Khalil Hemmati in Shiraz Prison were executed on charges related to drug offenses.

Further details, including the identity of the prisoner executed in Bam Prison, are currently under investigation by HRANA.

As of the time of this report, the executions of these prisoners have not been officially announced by prison authorities or the relevant institutions.

Execution of Death Sentences for Nine Prisoners on Murder and Drug-Related Charges

HRANA – At dawn today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the death sentences of nine prisoners who had previously been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses and murder were carried out in the prisons of Yazd, Jiroft, Ahvaz, Borazjan, Ilam, Khaf, Bam, Birjand, and Rasht.

The identities of the prisoners who were hanged at dawn today have been verified by HRANA as Karim Enhesari, Mehran Akhbari, Mehdi Balali, Abbas Karami, Ghobad Fathi, Mojtaba Azizi, Sanjar Dolat-Rashid, Khodakaram Moradi, and Rajabali Nourzad.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mehdi Balali was executed in Ahvaz Prison, Abbas Karami in Borazjan Prison, Ghobad Fathi in Ilam Prison, Mojtaba Azizi in Khaf Prison, Khodakaram Moradi in Birjand Prison, and Rajabali Nourzad in Rasht Prison, all on charges of murder, and their sentences were carried out.

Additionally, Karim Enhesari in Yazd Prison, Mehran Akhbari in Jiroft Prison, and Sanjar Dolat-Rashid in Bam Prison were hanged on charges related to drug offenses.

As of the time of drafting this report, the executions of these prisoners have not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

At Least Nine Prisoners Executed in Iran on December 30

HRANA – At dawn yesterday, December 30, at least nine prisoners were executed in the prisons of Jiroft, Yazd, Borazjan, Ilam, Khaf, Birjand, Bam, and Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz. These prisoners had previously been sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses and murder.

HRANA has confirmed the identities of eight of those executed. Based on information received by HRANA, Sajad Vaisi was executed in Jiroft Prison and Mahmoud Zarei in Yazd Prison. The death sentences of Ali Akbar Barzegar in Borazjan Prison, Peyman Zamani in Ilam Prison, and Khodarahm Ahmadi in Khaf Prison were also carried out.

Ali Mohammad Dastar was executed in Birjand Prison, Yahya Panahi Rad in Bam Prison, and Amin Khosroabadi in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

Vaisi, Barzegar, Zamani, Panahi Rad, and Khosroabadi had previously been arrested on murder charges and later sentenced to death by criminal courts. The death sentences of the other prisoners, who had been convicted on charges related to drug offenses, were issued by Revolutionary Courts.

Further details, including the identity of the ninth prisoner executed on a murder charge in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz, remain under investigation by HRANA.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not officially announced these executions.

According to the annual report on the human rights situation in Iran, published by the Statistics, Publications, and Documentation Unit of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, at least 1,922 people were executed in Iran during the one-year period from early January to December 20, 2025. Based on this data, executions increased by 106.6 percent compared to 2024. In many of these cases, due to secrecy, prisoners were denied even the right to a final visit with their families.

At Least 12 Prisoners Executed in Iran Over Two Days

HRANA- Over the past two days, according to reports by HRANA, at least 12 prisoners have been executed in Iran’s prisons.

Tuesday, December 23:
According to HRANA, the death sentences of the following individuals were carried out on this day:

Saman Barzegar, convicted on drug-related charges, in Birjand Prison;
Karim Yousefi, convicted on drug-related charges, in Khaf Prison;
Ghanbar Farhadi, convicted of murder, in Ilam Prison;
Safarali Sadeghi, convicted of murder, in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz;
Nejat Yari, convicted of murder, in Bam Prison.

In addition, a prisoner with the surname Moshiri (first name unknown) was executed on drug-related charges in Kerman Prison.

Monday, December 22:
HRANA reported the execution of the following prisoners on this day:

Jamshid Nourmohammadi, on drug-related charges, in Kashan Prison;
Majid Ahmadi, convicted of murder, in Neyshabur Prison;
Iman Bakhshi, convicted of murder, in Saveh Prison;
Noorkhoda Moradi, convicted of murder, in Dorud Prison;
Aydin Nourzad, convicted of murder, in Gorgan Prison;
Abbas Omidi, on drug-related charges, in Zanjan Prison.

Additionally, Iran Human Rights Organization reported the execution of two Afghan citizens on Sunday, December 21, in Taybad Prison. Their identities have been confirmed as Morad Sheghnaei, 27, and Mohammad Babrian, 32.

As of the time of this report, these executions have not been officially announced by prison authorities or the relevant institutions.

At Least 27 Prisoners Executed Across Iran from December 7 to 9

HRANA – Between Sunday and Tuesday, December 7 to 9, at least 27 prisoners were executed in prisons across Iran.

Sunday, December 7

Iran Human Rights reported that in addition to the execution of a prisoner named Farshid Jafarzadeh, two other prisoners were hanged in Lakan Prison of Rasht. Their identities were reported as Sirus Zabihi, 32, and Ali Soudi, 27. Mr. Zabihi had been sentenced to death about three years ago following a group altercation that resulted in a murder charge. Ali Soudi had been arrested about two years earlier on charges related to drug offenses.

The organization also reported the execution of Hassan Bahmani, 28, on a murder charge in Neyshabur Prison.

Monday, December 8

According to HRANA, on this day, Sultan Morad Bahmani was executed in Kerman Prison and Nima Karami in Neyshabur Prison, both on drug-related charges. Two other prisoners were also hanged in Dastgerd Prison of Isfahan on similar charges. HRANA has confirmed the identity of one of them as Mohammad-Baqer Souri.

Additionally, Borzu Beigi in Saveh Prison, Bahram Mousavi in Dorud Prison, Reza Raoufi in Kashan Prison, Kermshah Zaki-Pour in Zanjan Prison, and Ali Rostgari in Gorgan Prison were executed on murder charges.

Tuesday, December 9

As previously reported by HRANA, six prisoners were hanged on drug-related charges in Birjand Prison on this day. HRANA has confirmed the identities of three of them as Mirzakhan Basati, Behzad Mazarzahi, and Ali Barahouei. The identity of a fourth prisoner has been confirmed by Haal Vsh as Ramazan Deldadeh.

Kermali Farhadi, on a murder charge, in Bam Prison

Report on the Execution of 36 Prisoners in Various Prisons Across Iran

HRANA – In recent days, a broad wave of executions has continued across Iran, with dozens of prisoners, mostly charged with murder or drug-related offenses, hanged in various prisons throughout the country.

November 16:
According to Iran Human Rights, two prisoners, Sajjad Habibi from Fardis, Karaj, and Mohammadreza Besharat from Tehran, were executed in Qazvin Prison. According to the report, Sajjad Habibi had been arrested about four years ago on charges of intentional murder following a street altercation and was sentenced to death by the Criminal Court. Mohammadreza Besharat, 27, had also been arrested about six years ago on charges of intentional murder and sentenced to death.

Monday, November 17:
According to HRANA, a prisoner of Afghan nationality was hanged in Ferdows Prison on drug-related charges.

Tuesday, November 18:
On this day, HRANA reported that the death sentence of Heydar Tahmasebi, convicted of murder, was carried out in Mahshahr Prison.

Wednesday, November 19:
HRANA reported the executions of Shahrokh Sattari, convicted of murder, in Ardabil Prison, and Mohammadkarim Bastami, convicted on drug-related charges, in Quchan Prison.
Iran Human Rights also reported the execution of Kianoush Shadman, 29, in Lakan Prison of Rasht; Reza Nosrati, 25, and Mansour Deirin, 36, convicted of murder, in Adelabad Prison of Shiraz; and Hamidreza Pirhadi, 37, convicted of murder, in Borujerd Prison.

Thursday, November 20:
HRANA reported the execution of Mahan Sheikhi, convicted of murder, in Saveh Prison.
According to Iran Human Rights, Ne’mat Majidzadeh and Mehran Darabian, 27, were executed in Semnan Prison on charges of murder and rape, respectively; Mobin Ramazani from Yazd and Hassan Shokat, 43, were executed in Yazd Prison on drug-related charges; and Mozaffar Abdolvand, 30, was executed on murder charges in Dorud Prison.

Saturday, November 22:
HRANA reported the execution of Mohammad Tajik, an Afghan national, convicted of murder, in Taybad Prison.
HRANA also reported that on the same day, Sasan Misaghi (murder) in Yasuj Prison, Jassem Aghaei (murder) in Karaj Central Penitentiary, Rastin Baharvand (murder) in Khorramabad Prison, Peyman Alizadeh (drug-related offenses) in Bandar Abbas Prison, and Yaser Abdoli and Yaroli Haseli (drug-related offenses) in Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah were executed.
HRANA further reported the execution of two additional prisoners on drug-related charges in Hamedan Prison. Details, including confirmation of the prisoners’ identities, are still under investigation by HRANA.
On the same day, Sari Prison witnessed the execution of two prisoners convicted of murder. Iran Human Rights confirmed the identity of one of them as Hooshang Hashemzadeh, 34, and HRANA confirmed the second as Amir Moradi.

Mohammad Hossein Akbari, murder, in Dezful Prison

Three prisoners on drug-related charges in Arak Prison, HRANA has confirmed the identity of one, Mirza Janalizadeh.

 Four prisoners were executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad on drug-related charges. HRANA has confirmed the identities of two of them as Shamseddin (surname unknown), an Afghan national, and Alimardan Barani.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and responsible institutions have not publicly announced these executions.

From the beginning of this year until the end of October, the Iranian regime has executed 1,286 people, marking an unprecedented increase compared to previous years.

Five Inmates Executed in Sanandaj, Bam and Rasht

On July 27 and 28, five inmates convicted of murder were executed in Sanandaj, Bam and Rasht.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on July 28, 2022, two convicts identified as Hiwa Ahmadi and Payam Yazdani were executed in the Sanandaj Central Prison, Kurdistan Province.

A day prior, on July 27, Snanadaj Prison officials carried out the execution of another prisoner identified as Abdollah Rahimi.

Additionally, Rasank News reported the execution of an inmate identified as Mohammad-Reza Shiahaki in Bam Prison in Kerman Province.

Rokna News also reported that an inmate identified by the initials M.F., age 27, was executed in Lakan Prison, Rasht Province. He was arrested last year for killing a police officer.

These executions have not been reported by the official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.

The most recent report from the Statistics and Publication Center of the Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA) states that between January 1 of 2021 and December 20 of 2021, at least 299 citizens, including four juvenile offenders, were executed. In addition, 85 citizens were sentenced to death in this period. 

As the report points out, Iran’s judicial authorities do not publicly announce over 88% of executions. These unreported executions are known as “secret executions” by human rights organizations.
